Repetive producers - Easy to spot
« on: August 17, 2002, 02:12:28 PM »
I saw someone mention Hi-Tek as versatile, so I thought I make a post about the non-versatile/repetive producers.
The definition of a non-versatile producer:
A producer who sticks to one sound, and uses the same instruments and sounds over and over again.
Easy to spot also.
This does not necessarily need to be a bad thing though.

I think:
* Battlecat - Very easy to spot - his sounds is getting played out
* Hi-Tek - Often easy to spot because of the drum-pattern
* Neptunes - They are repetive, and rarely strays far away from their formula
* DJ Premier - Easy to spot, with his raw sampled style
* Fred Wreck - Often easy to spot when he does his Dre-impression

All of these producers are dope, but they're easy to spot often, and Battlecat definately needs a new style, or at least a new drum & string-pattern.

I don't think Fredwreck is repetitive at all.  He uses all sorts of live instruments Dre doesn't.  Just look @ the "Space Boogie" & "Bones" credits.

Battlecat though is starting to get played out.  All his beats I'm hearing now sound the same.

Same goes for The Neptunes.

You think Hi-Tek sounds repetitive? Lol, how much shit of his have u actually heard? Maybe the doggystyle alstars CD, Duces N Trayz and hollywood. Yeah they sound somewhat similar (apart from eastside ridaz and are you ready) but have you heard his stuf on soundbombing 2 or train of thought? dount it as they both sound different to what hes done for the west at the moment, they just might be the beats snoop wanted as he digs off beat funky shit

Most producers got their own style and become quite easy to spot when u listen to their shit for a while. Dre's dope as fuck but he's repetitive too

Daz Dillinger - He's one of my favorite producers but I can recognize his melodies cuz he often uses the same kind of instrument
