Tha last time...
« on: August 14, 2002, 01:11:54 AM »
Aiight, any of yall ever writtin a letter to Source about anything? Modz, dont move this shit...cus it DOES involve westcoast rap.

Im thinkin bout writin them up a letter. Anybody who got a copy of (hopefully u didnt BUY it) septemberz issue of The Source saw their "Top 100 Rhymes of All Time". This was unbelievably the MOST biased shit i think ive eva seen frum they magazine. I mean, we all know how biased they are for tha Eastcoast rapperz, but this shit was just plain ridiculous! They listed 10 different categories, with 10 linez frum songs...in order from 1-10. I would say about 8 out of 10 in EACH category..was all Eastcoast rappers. Even in genre'z in which Source themselves admitted in tha past that tha Westcoast started...they rated Eastcoast rappers linez higher....example...

"Gangsta Boogie" (Top 10 lines dealing with gangsta shit):

1. Kool G Rap "ill street blues"
2. Big Pun "Twinz"
3. Notorious B.I.G. "Who Shot Yah?"
4. M.O.P. "Calm Down"
5. Freddy Foxx "The Militia"
6. Mobb Deep "Shook Ones Part ll"
7. Lil Kim "Itz All About The Benjamins"
8. Snoop/Dre "Deep Cover"
9. Jadakiss "We Gonna Make It"
10. A Tribe Called Quest "Scenario"

...ok, now this is jus one list out of 10. Theyre rating particular lines from these songz. U mean to tell me...that the Source feelz that Lil Kim spit a more "Gangster Line" in "All About The Benjamins"...then Snoop did with "Yeah..and it dont stop...cus itz 1-8-7 on a muthafuckin cop..."? U gotta be fukin kidding me. Frum the coast that invented Gangsta Rap..we have ONE muthafuckin rapper in the top 10...on Sources list. Plus, what in tha hell iz tribe called quest doin on tha "gangster boogie" section? Snoop isnt even tha tightest wit Gangster lyrikz...jus in kali. Wherez Kurupt? Wherez Eazy? Wherez Cube? And their lists are all just as bad. I think i could count..out of the 100 different linez they have up...there are only 3 different westcoast artists that they actually use lines from, Snoop...Pac...Cube.....thas it. Even Puffy made one of tha lists...and in this Edition of The Source...they even had a joke in tha magazine about Puffy not writing his own rhymes...yet...he managed to be on one of their top 10 lists.

Anywayz...people wonder why westcoast artists cant sell recordz in NY...herez one of tha reasonz.

FUCK THE SOURCE...and any other fuckin bullshit biased magazine, im sicka this hatin bullshit. Buncha fakez. Hopefully any of yall that support Westcoast rap...WONT buy The Source and other such magazinez.

thas it...

peace

/me shakes his head

The Source are so laughable when it comes to things like these, makes you wonder about their knowledge on hip-hop as a whole. Maybe they should just stick to reporting about the Eastcoast, and let the rest of the coasts handle their own.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Never thought about that, but it's not even a bad idea. I don't hate on em, but if u got no love for the west u shouldn't include it in ur mag and it's obvious they're biased. That top 10 is stupid as fuck, writin a letter wouldn't be a bad idea

I've never bought a single issue of The Source; I've just read the interesting articles (at the store), and then left. ;)

talking about The Source, does anyone know when the Source Awards are gonna take place?  They've taken place around this time every year, but I haven't heard a word about it this year

They are happening this year but I think later because I saw an ad that said "Coming Soon". All I know is that it's happening in New York again. I just want to know who is going to win Lyricist Of The Year, although I'm probably 100% sure Nas is definitely going to win.

I wrote a letter to The Source once about how they gave Life After Death 5 mics when it first came out and how they ignored The Chronic because they were East Coast bias dickheads. Too bad they didn't print that.

That article about the top 100 rhymes IS bullshit.  Very biased, plus the few west coast lines they used were not that great!

exactly...thas jus a way to put westcoast artist on there, so they dont have to ADMIT their biased, and at tha same time...make westcoast artist look bad, by putting simple linez up in there from em.

Anybody frum Kali on here, ever thought of startin a westcoast hip hop magazine? Anybody know anything about all that? Cus itd be a tight idea, but i know itll take sum skrill behind it. anywayz, jus wonderin...

Murder Dog is based in California ain't it?  They got a lotta love for underground artist and Detroit (Esham and Insane Clown Posse), but they over-rate their reviews and a lot of the time the review sounds more like a prediction of what the album is going to sound like because they don't mention specific tracks......

Anyway, a west coast magazine is a great idea.

murder dog is a great mag...they hold nothing back and touch on EVERYTHING...from Banda Music, Reggae, East Coast (underground included)...Midwest, West Coast and South gangsta shit...the commercial shit...they touch on it all....but yea the reviews are a little strange sometimes...its not the best written mag but it sure as hell is ten times better than the best issue of the source....i mean damn how are they gonna say anyone spit more gangster shit than Eazy? or Snoop?....thats horrible....the source needs to check themselves...and ill be writing a letter to em for this shit....fucking dumbasses
