Name Dre really wanted to use for Aftermath Rcds..

He wanted to call it Black Market Records.  But there was already a small label using that name in 96.  I think it's the label that has XRaided.  Dre offered them like 10,000 dollars, but they kept uppin the annee so finally he said "Fuck it" and picked another name for the company.  I think Black Market Records was an iller name then Aftermath.

Dre explains this situation in the best magazine article ever, his cover story when he left Death Row, July 96.

Black Market Records would sound funny considering that a white boy is the biggest thing on the label.

I like the name Aftermath ;)

I remember when I first read that article I thought Black Market would be tight, but now I think Aftermath sounds the best.

I like Black Market, 'cause all his artist were big underground names first, like Em who was an underground legend before MTV, and what would be King T. But Aftermath fits best, because of all the shit in '96, and it being the Aftermath of Gangsta Rap, and the fall of Death Row. Aftermath was just that, the Aftermath of Death Row, and Gangsta Rap.

Mighty Whitey...Cedric Singleton owns the label Black Market Records.  Brotha Lynch was an artist on the label.  Peace.
