True...I try to support up-and-coming artists as much as possible, but Overseer's right though: if an artist really wants to break through, he'll have no other choice than being pimped by the label and thus make his music more acceptable for the mainstream audience...

Dynamic Certified, Young Hootie, etc...there's definitely a new generation of hungry MC's out there ready to stand up.

The new cats can't bring the west back without the help from the old mufuckas......nuff said..... 8)
G.Black got his foot in the door (without any help) and Game kicked it open (With 50's help). The time is now, we need to get behind our Young artists and push them to the forefront, as opposed to 34 year old dudes who won't be rappin' in another 3 years.

You got a point, but I refuse to support the shit they put out. I cant stand either one of their music. When the young cats start puttin out good quality shit then I'll support em. Crooked I needs to quit bullshittin. Thats some shit I can support. Balance is somebody I can support. Messy Marv aint really new, but he's still young and I support everything he releases. Majors just dont really wanna take a chance on real west coast music. They want this watered down semi east coast soundin shit for whatever reason.

its not a question of US supporting anybody. Most the people on here are fans of Westcoast music, thats why theyre here. Its about the westcoast media supporting our own. Theyre all too scared to take the chance. Ratings are more important then anything these days. Fuck that, Westcoast radio needs to get a fuckin backbone. Theres a reason me, and a lotta muhafuckas like me dont EVER listen to the radio. Cus i dont like lil jon, 50 cent, or any of that otha bullshit. None of these radio stations will ever blow up nationwide until they start supporting local artists. When those artist blow up...theyll blow the stations up. Simply playing what everyone else does makes u a follower, not a leader.

the radio thing is not about having a backbone.. its about who pays the bills and who makes the playlists.... which is often a company called Clear Channel. the company has a dual interest as they also deal with advertising..  outside specialist slots often used for local news programming the stations get little choice in the actual playlists.

you guys need to know the facts about how radio works before you blanket diss them.

all these problems go a lot higher up.

no!!.. its not about that at all. its about looking at the problem and actually looking at a REAL solution.

blaming people who cant make the change isnt the issue.. blaming established artists like this post set out to do doesnt help.

the facts are like this..

- radio, MTV, BET etc plays whats hot. whatever the labels have pressured them into doing.

- labels will only put money behind something thats selling.. if an artists first single is poor.. the dont put out a 2nd single.. they cut their losses.

- continuing from this llabels will only put out stuff thats been receieved well by the media.

when i say labels i mean corporate.. i dont mean your indie labels.

sad fact is.. these indies cant push large units without a major label connection and commitment.

back to a point i made before..

record labels are greedy.. they will put out what sells and the lesser the cost the better for them..

skills dont sell.. (ras kass) and ugly dude dont sell (bad az z. sorry lol..)

appealing to  women sells..  snoop, ja rule, 50 cent, game been acting just like rnb singers.. if u aint buff? they say get in the gym get ya shirt off... labels do it they put rappers into work out programs it happened to last emperor on Rawkus...  he joined rawkus which was indie, had a huge underground following.. the label got paper.. started getting staff from majors n stuff..  they fucked the label up.. the wanted dude in the gym.. he a skinny nerdy lyrical rapper.. not no rnb singer... guess what.. rawkus went bust..  they also groom them how to talk to the media.. all that shit..

above the indie scene  ITS ALL FAKE and its strictly business.

this thread isnt blamming older rappers, its making a real good point.

look at the eastcoast: do you still see Slick Rick, Public Enemy, Biz Markie, Doug E. Fresh, etc hogging the spotlight? NO.

but if you look at the big names on the West Coast from 10 years ago - same people: Snoop, Dre, Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, etc. its sad we still got old rappers like Daz, Mc Eiht, DJ Quik, and so on still tryna blow up (no offense to those artist)

I love they music but its obvious none of them are making music as good as they used to. so if they're gonna stay in the rap game, why not do something to help out our coast? help Sly Boogie, Crooked I, Spit Fiya, 40 Glocc, and all the other new cats come up.

but pushing them is fine, they are our only connection to the higher ups. When a customer at McDonalds has a problem with the prices...they voice their complaint to the Manager...not the Owner. The Managers job is to voice the customers concerns to the Owner.

its not even about US just supporting them. Its also about these "older rappers" supporting them. Go to the east and see who they know, or even respect from the west. It is like who u mentioned....Snoop, Dre, Cube....etc. When these respected westcoast artist wont even work with the "newer" cats....what message does that send?
