Damon Dash Music Group to be Dropped from Def Jam?
« on: May 10, 2005, 02:01:32 PM »
Industry sources revealed some tensions between Damon Dash and Island Def Jam.

Damon Dash and his Damon Dash Music Group signed wth IDJ 3 months ago but it seems that Dash wants more money for marketing and promotion as well as a bigger role in the company.

Sources suggest that Damon Dash could be leaving Island Def Jam as early as this week.
We'll keep you posted. Last week M.O.P. released a statement saying they were leaving the Damon Dash Music Group.

How did the artists get divided? Cuz Beans' album is Roc-A-Fella, but has Dame Dash Music Group on it. Bleek and Young Gunz are Roc. I don't get it.

Jay-Z owns the Roc-A-Fella name period, leaving Dame Dash & Biggs out from profitting

this whole Roc-a-fella situation got me confused as fuck! Beanie Sigel's album was on DDMG, he was on 106 & Park promoting it. If they're signed to Def Jam why not just keep the Roc together like that?

Yeah, Jay-Z owns the Roc-a-fella name, and Dame Dash isn't too thrilled about it.

Some of the XXL article mentionned previously

Some pretty interesting stuff in there. Apparently Jay-Z offered Dame the Roc-a-fella name in exchange for the Reasonable Doubt master tapes.

Dame mentions a lot of the artists who are on DDMG, but when you consider that ODB's dead and M.O.P. have just left, he's pretty much left with Beanie Sigel and N.O.R.E.'s label.

Kanye, Memphis Bleek and Young Gunz are all still on Roc-a-fella.
