wil rap ever see an era like 92-96 again
« on: July 17, 2002, 11:55:48 PM »
do you think rap will ever see another era like it did from 92-96.  It seems like every album was near classic 2 classic.  from east to west 2 down south.  It was like every1 had suptin to prove about there coast.  Tha west had to prove that they were no fluke an there rap scene was real.  Tha east had to prove that they werent dead an they were still runnin things an u had down south an tha mid-west sayin we got a rap scene he 2,  we gotta prove we real an we can hang wit tha east an tha west.  You think rap will ever see an era like this again.

Not in a milli0n years. This era was somthin special for rap,  asyou said like every album was a banger, and if you look at todays shit you got alot of commercial stuff, and most of it is plain crap. Its all about the scrilla anyway, but back in the day it was about keepin it real..

I don't think there will ever be in an era in rap like this.
With albums like chronic, illmatic, ready 2 die, soul on ice, doggystyle, and i could list even more classic albums but i cant be fucked.

I dont think we ever gona see that type of music or competetion again...Everyone was representin so hard in that time, and everyone had something to prove to the world...Nowadays everyone knows who all the rappers are and everyone buys there cd's so they aint got shit to prove no more...and Bi-coastal beef has been thrown away also.

I don't think rap will ever be like that.  Its sad, and except for a select few rappers it just gets worse and worse.

I feel blessed that this era was when i really got into hip hop.......it was incredible!  I liked rap before this, but when The Chronic came out (i was only 13) was when i really, really got into rap.  all the classic albums that followed, it was amazing.  THere is still so much stuff from back then i gotta get into, because if you go back anbd listen to many albums from that era, they just sound so much better.

I think EFFORT, HUNGER, and more talent was involved.  Nowadays, people seem to throw albums together very quickly, and just throw a couple guest appearances on there.....also, albums were a lot shorter back then, yet they were way more satisfying.  I would rather have an album of 12 amazing tracks then a 20 tracks album with 2 amazing tracks and a couple good ones.........

There was one year before, 1988, the best year in rap history. Since then, I think 1999-2000 came close, as every good new act came out, J5, Eminem, Dilated Peoples, Common hit mainstream, Nas had I Am... but Nastradamus came out too soon, The Roots, Mos Def, Dead Prez, the resurrection of the west. Then it seemed like though in 2000 that the Bling Bling era overtook what was looking like a uprising of another great era. I think we could have another era that's as great, but it's what the people buy, they look on the shelf, and pick up Nelly as oppose to Mos Def, and that just says, when people are ready for another great era, young rappers well always be ready to provide it. Can't wait for the new WC, and Xzibit.

Yeah Good point, I forgot about that. Ever1 was reppin where they came from, but nowaydays, its very different. A good example is Dre, Im not sayin he isnt West Coast anymore, but he's fuckin with more East Coast cats than his West Coast people. Im not sayin this is wrong, just different.
This is another point, people collaborate much more nowaydays. everybody is on everybodys album, which wasnt in 93, 94, 95. They had their crew on their album, maybe one or 2 guests from different crews, but that was it. Today you got E-40 with fabolous, Nate Dogg with jermaine Dupri, Dj Quik with Mariah Carey, Dre with Eve, Snoop Dogg with Mobb Deep. Like I said, its all about the Scrilla.

i think everyone is trying to become commerical too much anymore and its ruining everything...there hasnt been many good albums out for years...seems that lately you have to have some bitch singing a hook for you to get any sales...i personally dont like the direction rap is heading

That was a one time deal. Rap has solidified itself as a legit music genre and has become too commercialized and marketable. So things will never be like they were during that time period.
