How come Cube dont get his props
« on: July 16, 2002, 10:41:35 PM »
When ever people talk about greatest of all-time it seems cube gets mentioned rarely even among west coast heads.  This guy is a pioneer in tha rap game.  He has 1 group classic an 1 dope as fuck group album.  2 solo classic's,  2 dope as fuck solo albums,  one average an one real shitty album.  Did his last 2 albums hurt his legacy that much or is that he jus dont rap no more.  Its a shame,  cuz eastcoast heads still show mad love to peeps like big daddy kane an rakim but no1 talks about what cube did 4 tha game.  Cube deserves much more credit.  he is one of tha top 5 rappers of all-time.  Is it his movie career or suptin

Jay says it. The problem is that when you hear about Ice Cube in the last years, then it is about a MOVIE with him and not about a new ALBUM by him...

Cube is definitely one of the greats... i'd put him right up there in terms of influence... but i havent liked much of his work since Lethal Injection... that's still 5 dope solos, a dope group (NWA) album and a lot of influence on the west.  the fact that its been years since he put out a dope album doesnt help... since most hip-hop heads today were children when he was in his prime.

Cube is a LEGEND and I think it's ignorance (people just don't know who he is and what he's done in the game).  I think the Commercial Game has eliminated the the TRUE MC's in the GAME.

There is no sensible explination that Cube doesn't enjoy the same amount of recognition that others do. I think it's just because when the West was big (he was a main reason I believe) but he was doing political songs while everyone else was just doing hoes/indo shit. And that's what was selling. How often do his political songs get mentioned, rather than It Was a Good Day or You Know How We Do It? I love those songs, but I also love Us, True to the Game, Dead Homiez, The Product. And those are never mentioned. I think his movie career has hurt, but I can't see how Amerikkka's Most Wanted, Kill at Will, Death Certificate can be overlooked because of that. Also the fact that he was in his prime before the West hit big might have something to do with it, I don't know. He's my favorite rapper so I can't look at this objectively.

peace,
tnp

Cube has a very secure place in hip-hop history, no-one can take away what he's achieved and brought to the game over the years, he's a legend and a pioneer but I think with all the younger and new cats bursting through these days it seems to overshadow some of the older cats that havn't been releasing regular material. Especially nowadays when there's alot of younger hip-hop fans that don't necesserily know about the pioneers and old skool cats because their too young, and they prolly only know of him from his movies. I'm sure when he drops some new material he'll get back the recognition he deserves from older and younger heads.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.
