LawSuits against 4 Fast Food Chains

NEW YORK (July 26) - A man sued four leading fast food chains, claiming he became obese and suffered from other serious health problems from eating their fatty cuisine.

Caesar Barber, 56, filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Bronx Supreme Court, naming McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

``They said `100 percent beef.' I thought that meant it was good for you,'' Barber told Newsday. ``I thought the food was OK.''

``Those people in the advertisements don't really tell you what's in the food,'' he said. ``It's all fat, fat and more fat. Now I'm obese.''

Barber, a 5-foot-10 maintenance worker who weighs 272 pounds, had heart attacks in 1996 and 1999 and has diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. He said he ate fast food for decades, believing it was good for him until his doctor cautioned him otherwise.

``The fast food industry has wrecked my life,'' Barber told the New York Post.

Barber said there is no history of heart disease or diabetes in his family. He said he started eating fast food in the 1950s because it was cheap and efficient.

His lawyer, Samuel Hirsch, said the restaurants should list ingredients on their menus.

``There is direct deception when someone omits telling people food digested is detrimental to their health,'' Hirsch said.

The four chains have been providing nutritional information, including carlorie and fat content, of their meals for many years.

Steven Anderson, chief executive and president of the National Restaurant Association, called Barbers claim ``senseless and baseless.''

``Obviously the lawsuit is a blatant attempt to capitalize on the recent publicity and news stories on the growing rates of obesity,'' he said.

People who do this sort of shit are out of there minds. Do they not realize that they are going up against a worldwide company that have billions and billions of money under their belt.  They can never win in a situation like this because at the end of the day if you choose to eat at Mcdonalds and plaes like Burger KIng, KFC, you have got to know that there is alot of fat and grease and shit involved. I am 17 and even I know that when I take a bite out of the suculent, delicious double cheesburger the shit in it is not good for my body in 1 bit.  You cant sue a company for giving out the food that  its famous for.  if you dont want to eat Mcdonalds simple answer, dont eat it.  Fact of the matter is you are fat because you proberly sit on your ass all day long, get no exercise and forget about Mcdonalds you proberly eat crisps and chocolate and shit like that all day long.  its not Mcdonalds fault you are obese, its yours.

Dam Mcdonalds should employ me.

well I think the guy is an immoral lazy piece of shit bastard who is looking for an easy way out, and needs to put down the cheeseburger, get off the couch and use those things we call legs.

But really the guy does have a case and he will probably end up getting some money.  I have studied law a little bit and gone over a whole bunch of cases.  Anyone remember a few years ago a lady sued McDonalds because the coffee was too hot.  Well this guy realistically has a better case than she did from what I read in this post.  The jury awarded that lady over 7 million dollars, but the judge ruled that unfair and cut it down to around 3 million.  All she wanted in the first place was McDonalds to pay for her medical bills, but the CEO was an idiot and decided to go to court.  If he has learned anything he will just settle with this guy so he doesn't have to take  that chance again.
