Suge Speaks On BET Awards Snoop Incident

Two guys named Marion and Calvin don't sound scary, right?
But when Marion (Suge) Knight came within a few seats of Calvin (Snoop Dogg) Broadus at the BET Awards last week in L.A., artists started fleeing.

A source told us that the 6-foot-3 Knight, the West Coast rap mogul who was released from prison last August after serving five years for probation violation after getting into a fight in Las Vegas, appeared to be menacing Dogg.

The two have been feuding since Dogg left Knight's Death Row label, now called Tha Row Records.

"Suge sat in [rap group] Outkast's seats while they were getting an award, and he was throwing out gang signs and stuff at Snoop," the source said. "Security escorted Missy Elliott and other artists to their boxes."

Knight tells us that, though he "spent $4.5 million on Snoop and gave him his career," he'd done nothing but take an empty seat because "some lady took mine."

"It's paranoia," he added, dismissing his reputation for violent tactics. "I was by myself. You don't see any of these guys rolling like me [alone]. Snoop had two rows of people — 20 guys afraid of one guy.

"He's supposed to be a tough, street, gangster type and he's acting like a coward. Snoop was ducking down in his seat like he was about to melt."

Besides, Knight says he's changed after his stay in the hoosegow. "I was just glad to be watching the BET Awards live instead of on a 19-inch [prison] TV. I'm the one who's happy."

He's staying focused on the music, he says, putting out recordings next month by artists Crooked I and N.I.N.A. — the name used by late TLC singer Lisa (Left Eye) Lopes for her solo project. He's also trying to do good works: paying for a Mother's Day party for single moms and their children, bus trips to prisons for the families of those incarcerated and new playgrounds in poor neighborhoods.

Knight doesn't see a rapprochement happening anytime soon with Dogg or with Dr. Dre (the former Andre Young), who also left his label and then "got a restraining order out on me. I thought that was for battered wives."

But he could see making up with Sean Combs. "He already has enough problems. His woman left him for a backup dancer. If he wants to sit down with me, let's do it."
