Help of a computer wiz needed...
« on: July 20, 2005, 11:47:18 AM »
I got myself a pretty harmless, but very annoying little problem with my PC. Every time I start Windows, I get an error message that says "The file D:\Windows\Nail.exe couldn't be found". OK, so one mouse click gets rid of the message, but I'd like to not get them anymore. It's becoming a pain in the ass!

I tried using a couple registry cleaning programs, but since all the ones I've managed to find were shareware, they only scanned the registry and reported the problems without actually cleaning the registry. I also tried using some Windows Startup editors (since that's what it tries to do - run this mysterious Nail.exe), but they didn't find anything that was connected with this problem.

So - any advice? Quick way to delete unwanted startup items, or a functioning AND free registry scanner? (I remember I used to have one, but I can't find one now...)

Thanks in advance!

Well, yeah, that would solve the problem. But I was looking for some advice that included more of how I can fix the problem with my system intact and less of burning my computer.

But you're thinking, I like that. 8)

Start>Run>type "msconfig"

go to the startup tab, and uncheck anything you dont want to run at startup.
Also check the Start>Programs>Startup folder

Word up son.
Also, a quick Google-search shows that Nail.exe is spyware/adware of the worst kind.
A quick AdAware search should get rid of all that, and remove it from the registry.
