The Story behind the SF LOWRIDER Car Show.
« on: September 14, 2005, 01:52:40 PM »

THIS STORY IS EXPLAINED BY SOME FEMALE. BASICALLY LIL ROB CAME THROUGH FRISCO TO PERFORM AND ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WERE THINKING HAVING HIM ROLL UP HERE, I GUESS THEY'LL DO ANYTHING TO GET A CROWD. LUCKY THERE WAS NO DEATHS ON THEIT HANDS. ME AND MY PEOPLE ALL GOT KICKED OUTTA THERE RIGHT AFTER LIL ROB WAS DONE. BUT APPARENTLY DJ QUIK CAME ON NEXT AND RITE NOW WORD IS EVERONE IS ON SOME FUC DJ QUIK SHIT BECAUSE OF HIS DISRESPECT. HERE'S THE STORY.....

Q-vo Raza. I am very tired but I cannot greet sleep with these thoughts in my mind and pain in my heart. Today I went to San Pancho ( San Francisco) with mi compañero, Carlos and some friends as well as mijito.

The day was nicel. We watched the hop and Ayotli was so happy to see the cars reach the tops of the measuring stick. We walked around, dusted off MadSix4 and grabbed a bite to eat. We had heard for a few days before that Lil Rob was to come out and perform but we weren't buying it since he is a Sureño and San Francisco is straight up Norteño territory. The smell was in the air for fuckin signs and bullshit fights. We walked in and Carlos' 15 year old brother was mugged b/c he was wearing a Steve Young Jersey from the 49ers. A Sureño who was selling Thump Records CD's mugged him and we just laughed b/c it was bullshit.

I noticed some glances even at mijito b/c he has long hair and was wearing a niners wind-breaker. I ignored it b/c it was not a big deal....Just some fools trying to be dumb thinking I was a proud Norteña rep'n through fruta de mi vida. We walked around and then came to the arena to see who was gonna perform. Sure enough, Lil Rob was there on stage by himself not even trippin that all of San Francisco was booing his ass and throwing shit at him. We could see a sea of red and mongolians throughout the crowd throwing up their supposed warrior symbols. We went to the bleachers to watch from a far. I felt as though I was in an arena watching my beautiful xikano warriors drawing blood from their teeth in a fight in which no one wins. Teeth showing ready for attack as others yell to pump them up. White cops watching as though they are bidding on who will start the fight first. My heart was pounding and praying that a fight would not break out. Lil Rob start on "Summer days just sittin around but when the sun goes down..." and everyone boos. He keeps on like nothing is fading him. He's dressed in all brown as to ask for a truce by mutual color. In the middle of his chorus, a soda flies onto his nicely creased Dickies Chicano brown button up shirt. He still sings on as though the crowd is cheering him on and as though the disrespectful gesture was a rose in gratitude. He gracefully walks off the stage and says colors don't matter, it's all about Raza.

I give him props for being the bigger person and not fighting the ignorance and pain that yearned for his death. A few scuffs break out as one man is punched in the face as he guards his compañera and his lil 3-5 month old baby. The guy almost gets away until the cops find him and escort him out. They play California Love and ppl start getting all happy n shit and I feel the sense of relief from the DJ as though he is proud that the spinning is his weapon of peace and control which is a good thing. I was thinking of Tupac and watching my beatiful ppl bobbing their heads and I turn to Carlos and say " you know what? Look at all these norteños bobbing to Tupac and Tupac was against this gang shit. He didn't bang...he was about sole/soul survival, not killing our own ppl." He says to me "I was just thinking the same thing.." The chunky cholas behind me are talking crazy shit about Sureños and my ghetto-ness wants to SCREAM out at them, but my love and protection for my son keep me humble. I stop discussing it with Carlos b/c I know if more words escape my body, I will begin to cry. I feel the pain deep in my heart and soul b/c this is what our gente are doing to eachother. I want to cry, but this isn't the time nor place....another fight breaks out and a crowd of 20 starts to rush a cop but they are turned away....

DJ Quick comes out and everyone forgets about Lil Rob. I laugh and tell Carlos that they are so clueless b/c Quick is from LA, has MAD LA love and even though he is a blood, that don't mean shit b/c Bloods and Norteños have no god damn alliance just b/c they have the same color. It's as different as night and day. He agrees. Last song he does is "Born and Raised in Compton". Just before he start this one, he says "LA Baby!" we hear "BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" and he says "LA is the SHIT!" and again "BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" Carlos and I look at eachother again like here we go. He starts his cut and things mellow out until the end where he starts reapeting over 20times "Compton" and then the crowd starts getting annoyed. Quick was trying to show em up b/c of what happened with Rob. They didn't like it. When he was done, he was in the crowd so then he walked to the back and we thought that was it. He comes up on the stage again and throws up the "LA" hand signs and again the Boooos get hella big and he kisses his hand and walks off.

That's cool that a West Coast Legend like DJ Quik can perform "Born and Raised in Compton" and rep L.A. but when you do it to
just to piss off a SF/Bay Area crowd at a lowrider car show, then you are pretty much asking for trouble.

^ Well the Norteno and Sureno war isn't over "colors". It goes real deep which doesn't need to be explained if it doesn't concern you. The Lowrider promoters know exactly what they are doing when they bring someone like Lil Rob to perform in the North.

D1G1T4L, what more sources you need? I was there, wachu need to know? And there is nothing wrong with DJ Quik repping where he's from, but he did it in a taunting way, especially right after what happened. Mack 10 was at the same car show last year with the same crowd and got nothing but love. He was reppin the fuc outta inglewood too, but everyone loved it. Why? Go figure.
