Washington, D.C. authorities are probing several possible motives behind the recent shooting of Cam'ron, saying they're uncertain that the rapper was victim of an attempted car jacking.

As previously reported by SOHH.com, Cam, born Cameron Giles, was shot after midnight Sunday while waiting at a light after leaving club H2O in South West, Washington DC. One of the bullets plowed through his arm and traveled into the other.

Wounded and bleeding, Cam'ron then managed to drive himself to Howard University Hospital and was released the same day. His manager, Joseph "Big Joe" Sherman said he believed the shooting took place during a "botched carjacking."

Now, investigators say they are looking into several other potential motives and have yet to decide on one theory. They stated Killa Cam could have been shot in an attempted murder, targeted in retaliation for offending someone or shot in a road rage incident. Though they've haven't ruled out the carjacking theory, officials say evidence and witnesses are pointing to other motives.

The Harlem-rapper was in the D.C. area performing at various night clubs in celebration of Howard University's Homecoming Weekend. According to police, Cam, who drove alone in his royal blue 2006 Lamborghini, stopped at a red light at New York and New Jersey Avenues NW. A burgundy Ford Expedition then pulled up beside Cam.

Initial reports say the assailant approached the vehicle, grabbed the door and motioned for Cam to exit the vehicle before shooting him upon for refusing to cooperate. Police now says the gunman stepped out of his vehicle and began shooting without saying a word.

Authorities say a pink SUV filled with Cam associates was nearby when the shooting took place. According to investigators, the actions of the shooter and the closeness of Cam's crew are among the reasons police do not think carjacking was the motive.

"If you are going to carjack a car, you don't shoot first," a police official who wished to remain anonymous told The Washington Post. "You try to get the driver out of the car. You also wouldn't do that in front of people."

This past Sunday, Big Joe said that Cam's crew had become distant from the Lambo and were not close by when the shooting took place. He also said the shooter was trying to steal the pricey sports vehicle. Big Joe maintained his assessment yesterday. "It was a random act," he told The New York Post.

Cam couldn't be reached for comment. He was resting according to his spokeswoman.

Following the shooting, the gunman hopped back into the Expedition, which police believe was carrying another man, and drove off. Police said the SUV was chased by two Federal Protective Service officers who were patrolling close by.

The truck eventually crashed in the 600 block of U Street NW, temporarily trapping the two men, police said. The shooter then fired out of a window and the two men fled, police said. Authorities found evidence on the scene and located the Expedition's owner, who said he let a friend borrow his SUV. No arrests have been made yet.

After being released from the hospital Sunday, Cam taunted his attackers saying, "It was a sloppy job on their part  ;D They didn't get anything." Cam confirmed before pointing to several chains on his neck. A friend claims Cam was wearing $200,000 worth of jewelry at the time of the shooting.
