A Port Moody woman who was watching television at home Friday night was hit by a stray bullet in a drive-by shooting outside her condo complex.

The woman, who police say was an innocent victim, was in critical but stable condition in hospital last night.

Witnesses to the shooting in the driveway of the normally quiet Heritage Grand condominium complex at 310 Maude Road said they saw a black Ford F150 pickup come speeding out of the underground parking area at about 9 p.m.

The men in the truck fired up to six bullets at a black Hummer parked in front of the woman's ground-floor unit.

At least one of the bullets shattered the woman's glass patio doors and struck her. Others put holes in one of her windows and blew out the sliding door of a neighbour's upstairs condo.

"The tragic thing is, as a result of the gunfire that took place a 40-year-old female . . . was found shot by neighbours," said Port Moody police Const. Phil Reid.

"The injuries are serious enough that she [was] in critical condition. Her condition has improved to stable, but certainly she can't talk as a result of her injuries."

Neighbours say the truck fled the scene, jumping a curb and driving over a grassy roundabout. The Hummer then peeled out of the driveway.

Many of the neighbours called 911. Several ran down to the woman's apartment to try to help.

Scott Jenner, who lives with his wife on the second floor just to the left of the woman's unit, said he heard five or six shots and watched the drama unfold from his bedroom window.

"I called 911 but I couldn't get through, it was so busy," said Jenner, who has lived in the building for four years.

"I hope she's okay."

Resident Cameron Duffy said he and partner Cheryl Whitehead heard the shots and went to his third-floor balcony just as the late-model Hummer took off.

He ran down to see if anyone needed help and was horrified to see the woman's couch and bed drenched in blood.

"I saw the girl on the bed and she was completely covered in a blanket and one of the ladies was helping her," Duffy said.

Two other neighbours were trying to treat her and keep her warm until help arrived.

Duffy said he thought the woman was bleeding from a wound near her face.

She was taken by ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital.

The police aren't saying if it's gang-related yet.  It probably is tho.  For the most part Port Moody is a pretty safe place, but I guess shit like this can happen anywhere.

there were drivebys near my house like every 3 days at one point in the summer
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

I never got robbed, I never saw someone that wasnt a cop with a gun, I never saw a cop pullin his gun, I never heard of a gangstastyle murder, shooting or drive-by in my city, etc... I hope I can cope with that G shit when I move, Im really anything but used to it
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

It's not really even anything to worry about.  That's why they usually mention that it's targeted or gang related, most of the time this stuff isn't random.  The average person usually isn't affected by this stuff.  Last week 2 guys walked into a vietnameese restaurant at 2pm and shot 2 guys point blank.  That kinda shit is gross tho.
