SLY BOOGY
(December 2002) | Written By:

Here is a new Westcoast2k
artist feature on rising West Coast star Sly Boogy. We present you one of the
illest rappers the West Coast's new generation has to offer. Included is all his
background info, upcoming projects plus tons of unheard audio. Sly
is from San Bernardino and he is signed to King Tech's (from the Wake Up Show)
Record Label called "Urban Legends Recordings". Sly is part of a MC
Click in the San Bernardino/Riverside area that also includes Dr. Stank, Lunch,
Chuck Tha Innocent, and Sly's cousin Dirty Birdy. Sly would like to get down with
his I.E. homies Dirty Birdy, KMP, Dr. Stank and Funcsta Func for an album, if
it's at all possible. He
has has a A/B Side CD Single out right now with two tracks which are "Fatal
Mistake" and "Walk With My Dogs", both produced by Jake One. The
verses in "Walk With My Dogs" in which Sly takes on the persona of a
police officer are really dope, the way he flipped it is pretty original. Jake
One laced a hot beat on "Fatal Mistake" and Sly's delivery and lyrics
are just ridiculous. Sly just has that single so far and even that is hard to
find. Here are both songs in real audio "Walk
With my Dogs" and "Fatal
Mistake". He
had a big radio hit last summer gettin radio airplay called "It's
Summertime (Show Me Love)", which is probably my favorite Sly joint.
Another track which received airplay was "Jackin
For Beatz 2002". He's spittin over different beatz including knocturnal's
Knoc. The following rhyme is from the song "Jackin For Beatz": "If
you disrespect my fam when Im up at the jam you can receive a pimp smack with
the back of the hand / You cant touch me no matter where you stand even with the
arms bend as long as Plastic Man / batteling me could be drastic man its like
havin diarrhea in a traffic jam / gettin gaffled up with the half a gram on a
credit card scam in the back of the van with no tags / i bust a cap and watch
you scram runnin like the taliban in afghanistan" Sly
is formerly from the group "Black Spooks". You might have heard of them
from different guest spots. They had a track on one of the Wake Up Show compilation
a while ago on the track "The
Anthem 7" which also featured Crooked I, Ras Kass and Planet Asia.
Sly's Cousin Dirty Birdy is the 1st to Rap on that song. That's when Sly &
Birdy were still the group "Black Spooks". They
were featured on some more Sway & Tech Wake Up Shows and they were also on
a Digital Underground song together with Shock G from the late 90's. The song
was called "Fool Get A Clue" from the "Future Rhythm" Album.
They were the Black Spooks then, but Sly went by "Shaquaan" and Bird
went by "Shabaam". They decided to be Solo Artist early last summer. Sly
has a bunch of songs with his cousin Dirty Birdy. One of them is the song called
"San
Bernardino" and it is already a underground anthem in the Inland
Empire (San Bernardino / Riverside area).. Sly
Boogy recorded a bunch of songs together with Crooked I when Crook did thangs
with the Wake Up Show before he worked with Murder Inc.. One collabo was the "Anthem
7" or the Radio Theme for Dj Fell Fel on Power 106. Here is the "Felli
Fell Theme" featuring Sly, Crooked I, Planet Asia and Chino XL. Sly
is the one rapping over Biggie's "Who Shot Ya". Sly
did another theme for Felli Fell, this time a solo cut produced by King Tech.
This one is pretty tight, it has a funky feel to it using the talkbox. Here is
"Felli
Fel Theme 2002" The
Source Magazine did a feature on both Sly Boogy and his homie Dr Stank in their
latest issue. There is a story and photo of Stank and Sly is in the "Unsigned
Hype" section so check that out. Here
is some more audio by Sly. He made a guest appearance on the new Prince Paul album
on the song called "What
I Need" which also features Kardinal Offical. This joint is pretty
dope, he has the 2nd verse and does the hook. Next up I have a bunch of freestyles
he dropped, two of them when he guested on the Wake Up Show. The first is the
"Grindin
Freestyle" and then we got "Wake
Up Show Freestyle #2". Last
but not least another Freestyle from a mixtape over the Freeway beat "What
We Do". Here is Sly's "What
We Do Freestyle" Here
one more track from the album, this one's a hidden song and is actually part of
track #21, but you need to skip to hear it. Its a brand new Sway & Tech Anthem
with some of the most promising West Coast rappers, that be Balance, Crooked I,
Locksmith and Sly himself. Look out for Balance too, his rhyme is ill "Sway
& Tech Dj Revolution up in them crates/ up in the place Balance cuzz slippin
your ways/ with a Bulletproof flow gotta shoot in your face/ hard to believe when
I leave my grace this is me young cuzz you betta leave like Mase". Click
Here To Listen.
Make sure you buy his album "Judgement Day" when its hitting stores
in June 2003. His album will be released on Sway and King Techs label Bolo Entertainment.
It has production by Babu from Beat Junkies, Focus (produced on The Wash OST,
Truthfully Speakin), DJ Revolution, Jake One, Level, and King Tech of course.
Featured guests are Butch Cassidy, Truth Hurts, Saigon, Noel and Tracy Lane. The
first single is called "California"
and features Truth Hurts & Butch Cassidy. Here is another song from the album
called "Click
Click (Booyaka)" featuring Saigon. The album is pure heat so
make sure you get it cause the West is back with a new sound. And you will definitely
love it. They are already sellin it at Frisco
Street Show so head over to get your copy. The album cover is on the left.

Boogy is very original and his delivery is unique. People say the West needs more
heavy spitters like Crooked I or Ras Kass. There you have it, Sly is part of the
West Coast's next generation, and can blow up if you show some love and support
their music. Check
those songs that I posted and stay tuned cause when things move you'll hear it
here for sure. Shouts
to the homie Big Cain for the help with this feature. Next
up in the spotlight we got Damani & Dr. Stank!
