DAZ DILLINGER
(January 2005) | Interview By: Westcoast2K

Westcoast2K reached out to Daz to
briefly discuss a few things with him including his new album "Tha Dogg Pound
Gangsta LP", as well as other things concerning the Dogg Pound Gangsta. It is
well known that Daz is ready for some entertainment and controversy at any
time of the day... so come check out what he had to say this time.
..........................................................................................
Westcoast2k.Net - So whats the mind state of Daz Dillinger nowadays?
Daz - Oh man just getting everything together, trying to get it crackin. The
new album is here so everybody pick it up, we got worldwide distribution! I
heard they all burned it already but they wanna get the actual CD, cause that
comes with special artwork. I mean y'all can burn it but aint nothing like
gettin the CD with the original artwork and everything on it.
Westcoast2k.Net - Yeah talk about this new album...
Daz - Its called "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP", its all new music and its bangin.
You can expect some Dogg Food type of stuff, I'm takin it back to those days.
Everybody telling me they been missing that shit so thats why I did this "Dogg
Pound Gangsta LP". I did everything on my own, no other producers, no guests
except for the hooks which has like Nate Dogg and George Clinton on there. I
mean I can do it all on my own, I have my time period with everybody, but I'm
just doing me now. And I'm trying to do this So So Def album on my own too! I
mean Ima have some guests on it like Redman, Krayzie Bone, some shit like
that. We're on Virgin Records now, so you know what thats gonna be like. I
dont know when the So So Gangsta is coming out, but god damnit its coming!!
We're workin it out right now, most likely this summer. You know, that album
is gonna be different again. Its gonna be hard, its gonna be Daz and Jermaine
Dupri. And I got another record that I just finished called "Gangsta Crunk".
Its Daz mixed with crunk music, you know. That one I did for the South. And
for New York I'ma do a East Coast album! Ima get this money man, straight
independent shit! But you heard Game's album? Man that shit has all East Coast
beats on there, no West Coast on there! How can you take over the West Coast
and your album dont even sound like you're from the West Coast? I can't get
into none of that type of shit. That shit makes me wanna go out and put the
hustle down! But my new shit dont sound like this! Its strictly West Coast,
its like the wait is finally over. So if you listen to "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta
LP", thats the West Coast! I would rate Game's shit about a 7, and my new shit
a 10! All the fans like it! They say it sounds like the old Dogg Pound, and
I'm the creator of that!
Westcoast2k.Net - You have some remakes on the new album too...
Daz - Yeah, well the "Ambitionz Az A Ridah", I'm the originator of that one.
Say if I was a fan and I rapped over the beat like all these other rappers,
but I actually made the original. And I did "Fuck The Police 2005" because you
know... fuck the police! FUCK EM! Im just keepin it one hundred made mashin.
Westcoast2k.Net - So would you say that you reached the most comfortable stage
in your career now?
Daz - Yeah, I'm liking it independent and So So Def, because So So Def is my
distributor. They distributing my new album, but I'm still putting it out
independent. They give me a distribution deal through Virgin & through So So
Def, you know? So I'm still independent, I'm still droppin records and I'm
still on So So Def! And I'm owning my own records too. Who else can do that?
Nobody! Im much more free now, I mean it was free back on Death Row but right
now I can do what I want. I make my own atmosphere. I drop records any time at
any place now, but aint no business going on and no money on the West Coast.
Everybody scrappin' for a dollar. Killing, shootin & robbin & trying to get
it. So Game is takin over the West Coast but I dont see movin' nothing!
(laughs) As for me I'm all over man, Down South, up North, California, Europe.
You see I'm everywhere, but I keep my music West Coast. If I lived in Africa I
would do the same! Its just like sellin dope, all the dope dealers I know are
selling it out of town. So its just like dope, I'm out of town selling it! And
I hooked up with the nigga with the biggest keys! Kokain J, the 100 million
dollar man! (screams)
Westcoast2k.Net - How come you kept this album so peaceful, as far as beefs
go?
Daz - Yeah man, I'm just having a real good time on this album. I ain't dissin
nobody or none of that shit. I mean its still fuck Suge and Kurupt, but I
already said that shit, let them try to do it. They ain't making no money, you
see where his punk ass at? In L.A. all the time! Everybody on the road and
doing shit like that. But hey, tell him to put a record out first and then
talk shit! Tell him to get the money off of it and own it. I done dropped 5
records and he aint put out shit! And we finna drop 10 more this year. So I'm
gonna make the money cause I already said what I had to say about it.
Westcoast2k.Net - I'm sure you heard about his little brother's car crash?
Daz - Shit he should have broken more than his arms or legs or something with
all the drink & drive bullshit they be doing. Thats all that bullshit Roscoe
be doing, drink & drive and drink drunk or whatever the fuck. Stay off that
liquor!
Westcoast2k.Net - People wanted to know if you been in contact with Tray Deee
at all since he been in jail?
Daz - Nah I aint been in contact with him. I talk to his wife, you know him
and my baby mama are friends.
Westcoast2k.Net - So whats going on with this situation between you and
Yukmout?
Daz - You know Yukmouth wants some attention. Ima whoop this motherfucker when
I catch this little fast talkin' robot figure. It's on him, tell him to get
some money first. Tell him to take that rented chin chilla he had on the last
album off of that new album, and put a new one on. Its beef, bad feelings, all
that shit. Speak up on something and lets make it happen! Hey I'm the prince
of this shit, I'm the prince of the West Coast man. We gonna make this
motherfuckin' shit happen! They want to take the crown, but cant nobody take
the crown! He's trying to do some power moves but aint no power moves, what he
stuck with now?
Westcoast2k.Net - What is your opinion on the 2Pac "Loyal To The Game" album
which recently came out?
Daz - I dont like that album. Its like an album that was plastic surgerly put
together, they got all his words chopped up! They getting beats from everybody
now, if they really want a real classic new 2Pac album and they want it to
sell, they need to get Daz Dilli to do the beats like I did the first time.
Westcoast2k.Net - What is Soopafly up to?
Daz - He's workin on a new album on Doggystyle, and we still workin on the
DPGC album. We on the road together doing the DPG thing. Soopafly took Kurupts
place!
Westcoast2k.Net - What else you got coming?
Daz - I got the "DPG Eulogy" DVD that's coming right now. I'm puttin it
together as we speak. I gotta send it out to Toon and he gonna put the rest
together. My homeboy Manuel got a part on there, he used to play the keyboards
for Dr. Dre and never got the proper credits. Now you see Dre giving everybody
credit. Look at Game album, produced by Dr. Dre and someone else, Scott Storch
or whoever. They get all the credit now, we never got none of that shit back
in the day. But now I'm out here with Jermaine Dupri, we doing our thang. Then
you know, I got the "North Richmond Gone Wild", then "Ghetto Celebrity", those
are all independent projects. I'm puttin that together with Spice 1's DJ, his
name is Extra Large. DJ Extra Large used to DJ for Spice 1, he DJ for me now!
He's with me right now. He's from North Richmond, the hardest city in the Bay!
You know we just tryin' to keep it crackin. But we gonna have a meeting about
the So So Gangsta album today, cause that's the first priority right now.
Westcoast2k.Net - Are you still putting out that Crooked I project on DPG
Recordz?
Daz - Nah I scrapped that, I aint gonna spend my money on that shit. He's got
some of the songs too, tell him to put it out! That's on him, I can't worry
about nobody else no more, I'm past that shit. We gonna put it up for
download, but I aint gonna spend a penny on it cause I got so many other
projects coming out.
Westcoast2k.Net - From what I've heard those DPG-Unit projects got scrapped
too?
Daz - Yeah that's scrapped. Spider Loc is over there, fuck this. I'm just
gonna do my thing. Shit is all onsite, nigga is yappin his mouth! That Death
Row shit, and now he wanna make it seem like its cool. Fuck this shit! He can
do his little mixtape songs but they aint gonna put out his shit. But more
power to them, let them do their thing and get they money, just stay the fuck
out my way while I'm gettin mine!
Westcoast2k.Net - Alright so let everybody know about "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta
LP" one last time.
Daz - Yeah this for all my ladies. I got songs on there like "Do You Think
About" and "Come Close" to get sexually. And get explicit with songs like
"Bomb Ass Pussy 2005", "Hey How Ya Doin", "Rocc With Daz", so I got shit for
all heads on there. Its one of them albums for everybody that comes on my DPG
forum. This album is like the "Dogg Food" cause my fans been requesting it. It
will remind them of those times. I mean even myself think about those old days
all the time man. They live for me everyday, just little shit that I do,
different air that I breathe, it reminds me of different eras. I think about
it lots of times, but I cant dwell on that shit I got to keep it moving all
the time. And be on the lookout for that "So So Gangsta" album, its in the mix
right now we workin on it, So So Def / Virgin Records. And I hope y'all enjoy
that "Dogg Pound Gangsta LP"!
