Neville FA charge angers Ferguson 

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Gary Neville has been victimised by the Football Association because he plays for Manchester United.
 
Neville has been charged for improper conduct for his celebrations following Rio Ferdinand's winner in the 1-0 win against Liverpool last Sunday.

"Absolutely no chance," said Ferguson, when asked whether Neville would have been charged if he played elsewhere.

"The FA compliance office only reacts when the press writes it."

Neville, 30, was seen to grab his shirt and gesticulate wildly towards Liverpool fans after Ferdinand's late winner.

Referee Mike Riley did not see the incident at the time but then viewed video footage, and along with the match assessor, submitted his findings in a report to the FA.

Football's governing body in England were also alerted to Neville's actions by the Greater Manchester Police.

"As well as the referee and the assessor reporting the incident to us, Greater Manchester Police made it clear, to ourselves and the club, that they believed the the behaviour to be inappropriate and contributed to the disorder that followed the match," said an FA spokesman.

Ferguson suggested that players from other teams had performed similar acts but had not been subjected to a similar level of scrutiny.

He picked out Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher during the Merseyside derby on 28 December and Robbie Fowler's reminder to United fans of Liverpool's five European Cup wins earlier this month.

"Gerrard and Carragher ran the full length of the field with their fists raised at the Everton fans recently and not a word was said," added the 65-year-old.

"At Manchester City, Robbie Fowler ran past our fans showing five fingers. Our fans surged to the front and the stewards had real trouble dealing with them and not a word was said then either.

"In terms of Gary, all we have seen him doing is celebrating. To whom? There is no evidence, so I think the FA have a hard case to prove."

Im not saying it because its a man utd player, i had no problem with fowler taunting us after he scored. Players put up with so much rubbish from fans them giving some stick back is all good IMO.
