Quick Review Of Reasonable Doubt
« on: March 15, 2002, 07:43:25 PM »
I don't like talking about Jay-Z, so I'm gonna make this quick.  My friend let me borrow his first album.  I'd only heard bits and pieces of it before.  And it's official.  Jay-Z is average and overated.  I gave the album several listens through.

"Can't Knock the Hustle."  I love that song.

But the rest of the tracks are good, but they lack creativity.  You can tell Jay-Z makes music sober.  Because it ain't that entertaining or extreme.  It's just basic.  Some rhymes are creative like, "In Short Sleaves, I bear Arms" but really, it doesn't intoxicate your mind like other music.  Your like, that was a good line, but your not like, DAMN I'm feelin this shit.  Bottom line.  Jay-Z is just a plain, regular dude, who comes up with a good metaphor every now and then.  He has no personality.

^ Wrong... Jay is lyrically superb throughout the album, especially on tracks like "Dead Presidents II", "22 Two's" and "Can I Live" ... please don't call him an average rapper... that's a stupid statement based upon hatred.

Peace.

I didn't say he had average lyrics.  His lyrics are above average.  But he has a dry personality, and lacks style, you don't "Feel the animosity through the Serwin Vega" if you no what I'm sayin

Not for me personally, & I agree with most of what infinite said too. Jigga got some witty lines & he can write, I give him that, but most of his work doesn't really stick with me, The Blueprint I liked alot within the first week of copping it, but now the novelty's faded.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Jay Z lacks charisma. And for Shakira how can u call that album the greatest of all time..infront of all of these albums

Illmatic
Enter the 36 Chambers
The CHronic
2001
Doggystyle
All Eyes On Me
7 Day Theory
Me Against the World
Paid In Full
and others.....

Reasonable Doubt is cleary Jay Z's best work but not even one of the greatest albums of all time

It's a testement to where Jigga started from to where he's at now.

(Yo I recomend anybody who hasn't already seen it to watch "The streets is watching"...it's a tight movie slash video's in the same likeness as "Murder was the case")

This album found a home in my collection in 96'...and it still get's spin's. His collab with Biggie was a set up for the world on what was to come on "Life after Death"...up to that point all BIG fan's were feindin for some new ish.."Brooklyn's finest" deff quenched our thirst for a tight Biggie track...but yo who was this dude holding his own with B.I.G.?

Plus he had the top cutt at the time of it's release..."Ain't no"
Knowing what we know now about Jay-Z...all the sucess & accolades...as well as anomosity he has built up through his carrar so far.
it only makes us look back at this album like daaanm!!
homey came up.

(Pac & Biggie still being alive, I don't know if Jigga get's as much acclaim as he does....but we'll never know)

I give him his props on a tight album..

"Reasonable Doubt"
a hip-hop classic....the birth a new voice

i give the album a 4.25/5

good but overrated

can't knock the hustle= 4
politcs as usual =4
brooklyn's finest=5
dead presidents 2=5
fellin it=3
d'evils= 4
22 twos-5
can i live-4
aint not nigga- 1 or 2 depending on my mood
friend or foe-3
coming of age-3
cashmere thoughts-4
bring it on 3
regrets-3
can i live 2-4

theres like a couple of classics mixed in there with a couple of solid songs and the rest are just mediocre and jay-z's voice almost has no charisma or variation

it' a good album but it ain't no classic
