Props To "Hella-G" for the Translation

With so much drama in the LBC, it's kinda hard being Snoop D-O-double-G.
It's been a while since "Gin And Juice, but shit's still real for them DPGs.
At least this month has been filled with enough drama for Daz & Kurupt.
Fistly, Death Row announced they had signed Kurupt, which DPG Records of
course denied right away, but shortly after this Kurupt totally disappeared,
and noone could tell his location. Suge and Death Row representatives brough
Young Gotti with'em to New York, and together they were aired live at HOT-97
confirming Kurupt's re-arrival to Tha Row. DPG Records claims that Kurupt's
contract with Suge doesn't count at all, seeing that Suge hasn't even payed
his dues to Kurupt's former label yet. We thought it was about time to do
some chit-chat with the Dogg Pound crew, and find out if Kurupt really was
jumping ship, so after a while we managed to come up with Daz' cell phone
number, and gave him a call. Unfortunately, he was very low on battery, so
we were cut off in the middle of the conversation. It took us 48 hours to
get in touch with him again, but he didn't seem as talkative as before...
(The converastion with Daz took place just before Suge brought Kurupt with
him to N.Y.)
Hella: Didn't u originally come up as a DJ?

Daz: Yea, true dat, I used to DJ fo' a group called IBP.

So, what was your name bacc in them days then?

Ha-ha, I went by the name DJ Jedi... This was just after Return Of The Jedi
hit the big screen.

How did u come up with the name Daz?

People used to call me D.A., cuz of my name; Delmar Arnaud.
As time passed, I got hooked on this political, black power music, y'know,
groups like Poor Righteous Teachers, Brand Nubian, etc. I was in it fo' a
while, before comin' p with the idea of puttin' an Z to my name. U know, Z
like in Zero. Then Snoop added Dat Nigga to it all, and there I was, Dat
Nigga Daz. And yea, Tupac came up with the name Dillinger...

So it was Tupac that gave u the last name Dillinger?

Well ah, I did come up with the name myself, but 'Pac sorta wanted all of us
to go by a "Outlaw" name. So I borrowed the name from John Dillinger, the
O.G.

Man, u done produced almost as long as you've been rapping. What's yo'
favorite?

Man, I don't know... i like both. I produce a lot, and gots a helluva lotta
beats lying around. But hell, I rap all the time, new songs for everyday...

Yea, I know whutcha mean...
Are u giving away your beats or selling them to artists who ain't with the
DPG car?

Yea, I sell to ev'rybody with enough paper. Ha-ha, no need to diss as long
as the papers flow, nah mean?

It's been a lotta fuzz about all the violence and sex-talk in gangsta rap,
but you ain't giving in to the protests. So ah, have you ever considered
adjusting it to the younger audience?

Yea, that thought has peeped into my mind a lotta times. But... I dunno...
The way my life is now,
I'm not gonna make it softer or anythang. But it's true that I don't want my
children to listen to that sorta music, and live this way. But when it comes
to me, and what I go through each day, I'mma push this to the limits and see
where it takes me. If I don't, some'un else will do it, nah mean?

We've heard rumours that Kurupt is jumping ship and headin' for an indie
label?

You've heard what?!? Kurupt heading back to Death Row?!?

[He tells the other passangers in the car that people in Norway has heard
Kurupt's going bacc to Tha Row]

Well, that might happen... [Someone in the baccground hollers that Kurupt is
going "nowhere".]
Death Row might re-sign him...

So, what did you do after releasing Retaliation Revenge & Get Back and left
Death Row?

I went to Bay Area wit' my last penny and my last burger. Ha-ha. Ev'thang a
nigga owned was $300, but then a friend of mines introduced me to JT The
Bigga Figga. Me & JT was planning on doing just one song together, but ended
up with ten. Afterwards I featured fo' a lotta other artists, and went bacc
to Los Angeles with $ 47,000.

Was it about this time u did Long Beach 2 Fillmore with JT The Bigga Figga?

Yea, firstly we made a version of tha album that we marketed and sold on our
own. Ha-ha, there was this fella who bought up 20,000 copies fo' about
$160,000. Afterwards we made a deal with Black Market Records, and
re-released the album, with a totally new sleeve, and a couple of new songs.
Those two albums are two classics. I dunno how many knows about JT The Bigga
Figga in Norway, but he is a major indie artist in Cali. He's the one that
taught me everything I knows about independent music bidness. Ha-ha, now he
says; Damn, I taught u all of it, and now u sell even more than me! Shit's
much better with indie albums, cuz u own everything yourself, and
distributes everythang yourself. U might do 6-7 different deals on the same
album, and then release a totally new album two weeks later. DPG Records has
also released the compilation "Who Ride Wit Us", and me and Kurupt will soon
be coming up with the third Dogg Pound album. We've got a lotta business
plans.

How much do u earn on each CD?

Now I earn almost $10 per CD. But if I was at a major record company they
might've given me between 50 cent and $2 for each CD I Sold. Record company
pimpin'. They might give u $300,000 - $400,000 at the start, but when u've
payed up for the time in the studio and all the promo, then you're left wit'
shit.... By the way, we gon' start our very own DPG Magazine. It'll be a
magazine where u gt to know all about the DPG Family, plus we're including
things about other artists. I was on my way bacc from Scarface in Houston.
His workin' on his new album, for Def Jam South...
Ayo, call me bacc in half an hour...
[Beep!]

[Daz' phone is turned of for two days. Fortunately enough, he answers us an
early Los Angeles morning, but not as talkative as the day before yesterday
though...]

Hella:
So whuz up with Kurupt and Death Row?

Well, I don't know... a lotta shit is going down right now. Kurupt is in
financial troubles. A lotta stress... It's correct that he talked to Suge,
but nuthin' is fo' sho'. Death Row still ain't got shit on the paper. In
other words; Kurupt is playing with the devil right now...

U sound pretty tired to me?

Yea, I had to get up early. Had to go to a photo shot with Lil' E, Eazy-E's
son. We're releasing a soundtrack to the documentary about Eazy-E.

So Lil' E's rapping?

Yeah. He's Eazys oldest son, and he's down wit' Ruthless Records.

Whut up wit' you're new solo-album, "This Is The Life I Lead"? Wasn't it
s'posed to be released for a long time ago?

We've holding it bacc for a while. I've done some new songs, and we're
planning to release it a couple'a weeks after Snoop's new album.

Paid The Cost To Be The Boss?

Yea.

When is Snoop releasing it?

The plan was to release it in april, so my album will arrive during the
spring.

Whuz up wit' Soopafly?

He ain't signed to DPG Records anymore. Snoop signed him do Dogghouse
Records.

Are you still kickin' it wit' the Roc-A-Fella crew?

Gjeeesp [tired] ... Yeah, we're family...

Thanks for your time, Daz. Be safe.

Thanks... Peace, Norway.

It's about a month old... it was on a website called stress.no, but it was written in norwegian. I had this tight homie cross by me who would translate it for me. So I got it up last week in  english.

To Ax:
Thanks Dogg. I do what I can. I wish I could drop a new song/info here and there and even when I do get new material, I don't have any time. The time I used to have as a High School Student is gone. I'm working on like 3-4 Websites for School, and so my time with Snoop's Doggpound is going down. Why? Because Snoop's Doggpound won't give me that good passing grade. Hopefully in the summer I can get shit cracking again, but times are changing. So am I.... Props though. Your a true Homie. One Love

You know how we do BP!  Respect the real!  Give props when props are due.  Thats rule #1.  Be real or be out is my motto.

Also, I look forward to seeing your new Domain, and layout.  Holla at us with an update.  You teased us by having us suggest Domain names and we aint heard nothing, brotha.

I'm sure others are just as excited about seeing you new layout as I am.  I actually wanna see how your skillz have improved cuz I know they have!  You've previewed some of your layout ideas and dogg.. Imma be real.. Since you've been attending these classes, It seems to me as if you've been reborn as a designer (Graphic Design and web skills.)  The new BP (based on your previews..) puts the fade on the old BP.  You've grown as a designer and thats respect!

Keep studyin and workin hard.  It will all pay off when the market turns around.  And believe me, it will!  My child support depends on it :)  Pz.

Thanks Dogg. Like I said to many people. Designing and making websites is real cool to me. Snoop's Doggpound was just a route to express my ideas. Now I have the chance to spread my ideas everywhere. It's been cool with this site too. Because I started it out on my own... Just me by myself. I put it on the web and then people started liking it. Bookmarking it. Coming back everyday. Then I met cats like dpgc2k, b-please, trauma... "lil jay lil jay" from westcoast2k who were doing what I was doing. Then it got bigger than I thought it would. It's been two years. I love designing... and informing is coming secondary to me. But I know if I completely stop my site. I'll lose touch with the west. This is my hobby, and I gotta stay in touch. Westcoast 4 Life Homie... you taught me that. So much shit out there that we never hear. I remember my first page. It was just a one page site with a snoop picture on it and text. Some of you weren't around when Lil Jay got started... now his site was some funny shit... but we all learn. I remember getting to know all of you from DAN of DoggyDoggWorld. Since then, he simply stopped his site. He has chosen a path through trance music. It's cool though. We all change. In a year or two, I'll be out in the real world, doing this shit for a living. Then, I probably won't have anytime. I don't even have time to write this. Anyway, props again. I'm out yo!

Thats real BP.  But Imma have to pull your card..
HAVE YOU FORGOT ABOUT DYNAMIC DAN.  Have you forgot who introduced us?  Dan was the first person to introduce me to an .MP3 which just so happen to be Dr. Dre and Mr. Ski.  I had no clue what he was talking about when he replied with   "Yea, I got it.. you want me to send?"

I was totally lost as to how it all worked and look at me now.  I owe alot to Dan.

Dan was the web master for the now DEFUNCT www.doggydoggworld.cjb.net

Remember his site?  He had a real clean layout, but didn't update much.  One thing he did have was respect.  To and from the homies.  He's since moved on to what he feels are bigger and better things and I'm 100% down with him.

His focus is all about the Trance scene, and the thing is, hes good.  Real good.  He produces all of his own music with his partner in crime, Charlie.

I've never been into Trance, but Dan got me hip to some really nice shit, and I can't help but identify with it, cuz I identify with Dan.  We boyz.  (I got so much respect for this brotha...... who stayed real with himself by doin what the fuck he enjoys.)

Anyway, he lives in Wisconson (as you know) so I dont know how in the world you could've forgotten about him.  I spoke to this fool 2 nights ago.  He runs this site with his music partner, Charlie.  Check it out.  The design and the Flash skill level of Charlie is amazing (Flash king.)  Dan got his web skillz from this dude.  Charlie is SIK WID IT.  Check out his layout and give me some feedback.  K? Pz
