question about "true to the game" by ice cube
« on: February 28, 2006, 07:21:38 PM »
Verse 1 - dissing Eazy-E
Verse 2 - dissing MC Hammer

Was the 3rd verse dissing Eazy again, or is it a subliminal shot at someone else?

that song is so hot.

the first verse is dissing eazy?   i don't see how that could be.  the guy in the video isn't eazy in any way.

verse 2, mc hammer...sure.  dj pooh was hilarious there.

i don't think verse one or verse three are specifically targetted at anyone, certainly not any rapper.

hot song.

^ I'm assuming the 1st verse is about eazy. Who knows tho

Yeah "true to the game" is one of the best songs on "death certificate". I've been playing that album all week

how could it be about eazy?

the only "suspect" thing eazy did was attend that republican lunch with bush.  wasn't dude still living in compton?  he didn't marry some white chick and move to the suburbs and get harassed, which is what the verse is about.

verse 1:
Quote
It's the nigga ya love to hate with a new song
So what really goes on
Nothing but a come-up, but ain't that a bitch
They hate to see a young nigga rich
But I refuse to switch even though
Cause I can't move to the snow
Cause soon as y'all get some dough
Ya wanna put a white bitch on your elbow
Moving out your neighborhood
But I walk through the ghetto and the flavor's good
Little kids jumping on me
But you, you wanna be white and corny
Living way out
"Nigger go home" spray-painted on your house
Trying to be White or a Jew
But ask yourself, who are they to be equal to?
Get the hell out
Stop being an Uncle Tom, you little sell-out
House nigga scum
Give something back to the place where you made it from
Before you end up broke
Fuck around and get your ghetto pass revoked
I ain't saying no names, you know who you are
You little punk, be true to the game

in the video, the verse one guy isn't a rapper.  maybe an actor or an athlete or something, if famous at all.  i'd think o.j. before i thought eazy...

verse 3:
Quote
A message to the oreo cookie
Find a mirror and take a look, G
Do you like what you see?
But you're quick to point the finger at me
You wanna be the big fish, you little guppy
Black man can't be no yuppie
You put on your suit and tie and your big clothes
You don't associate with the Negroes
You wanna be just like Jack
But Jack is calling you a nigga behind your back
So back off genius
I don't need you to correct my broken English
You know that's right
You ain't white
So stop holding your ass tight
Cause you can't pass
So why you keep trying to pass?
With your black ass
Mister Big
But in reality, you're shorter than a midge
You only got yourself to blame
Get a grip, oreo and be true to the game

where did you get the idea that this was about eazy?  he dedicates a whole song to eazy and n.w.a. later on.  i don't see how this one was about eazy.

the jew line, his talking about Jerry Heller, who he always refers to as Jew, never his name. So that has to be Eazy. The video he might have changed it so it wouldn't out shine No Vaseline as the main Eazy diss. I have always wondered about the last verse though, I always thought it was a general diss to sell outs.

The Intro's what makes me think it's aimed at Eazy
"Ay, yeah you, motherfucker
You know who I'm talking to
Yeah, you that motherfucker that betrayed your homeboys and you ain't
shit
Yeah, you about to get your motherfucking ghetto pass revoked,
motherfucker
Punk-ass mark, bitch-made
Punk-ass trick in a basket
You got caught up in the mix..."

Funny thing about that song and video is that he's dissin black men who try to live white while Cube is the one drivin around in a BMW.
IS DETOX NEXT? Don't think so.

He dissed Color Me Bad and some other pop groups in that song.

Color Me Bad hollered at him after taking heart to the diss, and he helped direct one of thier videos or something.
