in other FA news my vikes have made a crazy offer to sign hutch making him t he highest paid guard in nfl history :D. i doubt seattle can match the offer as its like 13 million for this yr and they just dont have the cap space. also a good signing by the rams to sign witherspoon and i am hearing that the giants inked up lavar arrington. the browns r doing great too wit lecharles bentley and jurevicious singing up. and shiet the redskins were able to get antwaan randle el.

Actually the Seahawks are most likely going to match the offer. They'll only end up paying Hutch about $1million more than they planned on doing. The Seahawkss by the way have over $17million in free cap space.

Actually if u look at the contract its with a 13 million cap hit for this season. that means the seahawks would be down to around 9 million left and they still have to leave money left for draft picks and they have other holes such as replacing rocky bernard. it is possible that they might but if they do then theyll have to restructure several contracts and theyll be tight in signing all of their draft picks. zygi wilf and rob bryzenksi put forth an amazing contract so itll be difficult for the seahawks to match.

Actually, you're the only one that thinks it's going to be difficult for the Seahawks to match it. The Seahawks have to & most likely will match the offer. They can't afford to lose him & per year this isn't much more than the Seahawks were going to off him anyways.

ACtually the way contracts work out is that the money isnt divided evenly per yr. like for hutch's contract its 13 million for the first yr and then the next yr itll drop followed by each yr after that. the vikes did this as they had one of the most cap space like 35 million and this was done to deter the seahawks from being able to match. personally i think the seahawks have to match it as this guy is a sure fire hall of famer and is the best in the game and bringing him in is bigger than picking up a say edge as its the oline that makes the running game(look at the broncos the past few yrs). IMO the seahawks should and in the end will sign him as they just signed alexander to a huge contract and without hutch his porduction will drop for sure.

www.nfl.com (March 13, 2006) -- Start fitting Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchinson for a Minnesota Vikings.

The $50 million offer sheet that Hutchinson signed Sunday with the Vikings includes a provision dictating that he be the highest paid offensive lineman on his team this season -- or the entire $50 million contract becomes fully guaranteed, according to someone who has seen the offer sheet. Well, Seattle offensive tackle Walter Jones averages $7.5 million per year, while Hutchinson's contract pays him an average of $7 million per year.

The Vikings made Steve Hutchinson an offer that will be tough for the Hawks to match.
So if Seattle matched Hutchinson's offer sheet, it not only would have to figure out how to squeeze in this year's $13-million-plus salary-cap figure, but it also would have to guarantee a whopping $50 million to Hutchinson, making it the richest cash contract in NFL history by a cool $15 million.

As it is, Hutchinson will be the fourth highest paid offensive linemen in football, behind only Jones, Orlando Pace and Jonathan Ogden.

The deal, devised by Hutchinson's agent Tom Condon, makes it exceedingly difficult for the Seahawks to match. One person involved in the composition of the offer sheet predicted the Seahawks cannot match it; the ramifications would be way too severe.

Seattle is said to be miffed not at the contract, but at Hutchinson's actions. As an act of good faith, the Seahawks opted to slap Hutchinson with the "transition" tag instead of the "franchise" tag, enabling the guard to solicit a deal that would be the best gauge of his market value. Seattle opted against the franchise tag only because it did not want to disenfranchise Hutchinson the way so many players slapped with the franchise tags are.

In turn, Hutchinson's agent devised one of the most innovative contracts ever created, a monumental deal that nobody in Seattle saw coming. Now, the overwhelming chances are, Hutchinson is gone.

Seattle does have one other option, but it is highly risky. It can match the offer sheet and appeal the terms of the offer sheet to the NFL's Management Council. A Special Master would hear the appeal and if it ruled against the Seahawks, Seattle would be obligated to pay Hutchinson $50 million.

It's probably a gamble the Seahawks cannot afford to take.
