Master P Sentenced To Community Service
« on: March 13, 2006, 04:05:51 PM »
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rapper and "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Master P was sentenced to 40 hours of community service on Monday as part of a plea deal with prosecutors to resolve gun charges.

Master P, whose real name is Percy Miller, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a loaded and unregistered weapon. A Los Angeles judge also fined the 38-year-old performer $700.

The rapper's younger brother, Vyshonn Miller, a singer who uses the stage name Silkk the Shocker, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of carrying an unregistered and loaded firearm. He was sentenced to three years supervised probation, ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and fined $700.

Both men were arrested in January 2005 after police spotted a gun under the driver's seat of the car, which was being driven by Vyshonn Miller, 30, and another gun on the passenger seat, where Percy was sitting.

Percy and Vyshonn Miller settled the case three days after the Louisiana Supreme Court ordered a new trial on murder charges for their brother, Corey Miller, a 35-year-old rapper who formerly performed under the moniker C-Murder.

Corey Miller had been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy, but the court on Friday overturned his conviction because prosecutors had failed to disclose the criminal records of some witnesses.

Master P, the founder of hard-core "gangsta" rap label No Limit and father of teen rapper Lil' Romeo, starred alongside his son on the Nickelodeon series "Romeo" and most recently competed on the ABC reality TV show "Dancing with the Stars."

Maybe because he was the driver?  I dunno why that would make a difference, but that's the only thing I can see.  Might be his gun was bigger, too, lol.

Hmmm.....that shit is an interesting question. I really have no idea. I would assume it's because Silkk already had a record or somethin to that extent....or either because they were discovered in different ways. Like maybe it's a misdemeanor if the cops stop you, and you admit to havin it...but if you say you don't have it and they find it on you, it's a felony. I donno much about the law, I've never been in trouble.
