PURCELL, Oklahoma (CNN) -- A 10-year-old Purcell, Oklahoma, girl was the victim of a horrific plan of kidnap, rape, torture and cannibalism, authorities said Saturday.

Investigators found Jamie Rose Bolin's body in a plastic storage tub in the bedroom closet of 26-year-old Kevin Underwood, said Tim Kuykendall, the district attorney for McClain County.

Underwood -- who has not been formally charged -- and the girl lived in the same apartment complex.

She had been missing since Wednesday.

The medical examiner said Bolin died of asphyxiation and blunt blows to the head, said Kuykendall, who added that her injuries were also consistent with a "serious attempt to cut the head off the body."

Evidence seized from Underwood's apartment included a dismantled bicycle found under a bed, a decorative dagger authorities say was used to try to decapitate the girl, a hacksaw, a meat tenderizer and barbecue skewers, Kuykendall said :grumpy:

Also found were a mug thought to have been carried by the girl into the apartment, a video of a cable television documentary on serial killers, a wooden cutting board and a computer, Kuykendall said.

He said the girl was struck on the head with the cutting board "three to four times" and that Underwood suffocated her using duct tape and by placing his hand over her mouth.

Her clothes had been placed with her inside the tub, along with a towel to soak up blood, Kuykendall added.

"She is believed to have died early Wednesday, long before law enforcement began the search," said Kuykendall. She was last seen alive on that day.

An autopsy report is being finalized, but her body showed signs of sexual molestation, said Purcell Police Chief David Tomkins. After the news conference, Kuykendall told CNN authorities believe Bolin was molested after she had died.

"This was well planned out," said Tomkins, who said that authorities believe other individuals, including adult females and boys were targeted.

"But Rose was the one who was selected for this plan," he said.

Underwood is being held without bond at McClain County jail and is scheduled to appear before a judge Monday to face a charge of first-degree murder. Other charges are also possible, said Kuykendall, who added that he would seek the death penalty if Underwood is convicted.

Underwood was apprehended after being stopped at a checkpoint near the apartment complex, Kuykendall said.

Yes I know, I have never been able to fathom that one and I understand the issue of appeals but if someone has been caught red handed and there is conclusive overwhelming evidence against them ti prove their guilt then surely the sound of guns should be swift.
