"Truth" Emerges From Louisiana To Stake His Claim - April 23, 2006 By : Rud
Although northwest Louisiana is not often aligned with dubcnn and Hip-Hop; today marks an exception. In 1982 an artist was born who goes by the name of Truth. Child of a middle-class pre-school teacher and papermill worker, he was the families only son. As the years progressed he found the perfect way to express himself was via lyrics and as a youngster began rapping accapella with no knowledge of structure. As his 'poetry' evolved he found ways to portray his life when he was transferred to a city high school where he quickly began to see life in a new light, and began to see struggles that occurred in the streets.
Having taken to participating in rap battles and freestyle ciphers he quickly made a name for himself. Dropping out of college due to financial problems he yearned for a change of scene, so with $200 and a notebook he moved to Orlando Florida, living for two months with a friend where he slept on the floor. He then met Spider who envisioned starting a label with Truth as an artist. Time elapsed and the label collapsed due to financial constraints, as a result Truth found himself at a loss until he met Dox the Ceo of Colab Ent.
After talking they made the decision to work together; this time there was no time wasting or finance issues - they were in the studio recording original material. Still in Orlando Florida he has made a name for himself performing, his wordplay, raspy voice and deep content helps him separate himself from your average southern MC. The release of his debut mixtape; "Too Good To Be Truth" has resulted in him quickly becoming a household name in the homes of thousands from the east to west coast. The hard work earned him a spot on Dow Jones' "Play Your Position Part 3" where he was featured alongside names such as Snoop Dogg, The Game & 50 Cent.
Truth explains the essence of who he is right here: "I feel that a big relevant part of the true meaning of hip hop was taken away from us in the loss of Tupac and Biggie. There is a much needed presence of tracks such as 'I Ain’t Mad at Cha' and '10 Crack Commandments.' I know my purpose in life. Its not to change some ones life but to inspire one who wants to change. I am a person for the people and of the people. That’s why when people refer to me as a rapper who writes good music about life, I swiftly correct them by stating. I am not a Rapper that writes good music about life. I am a writer that raps great music that comes from the soul"
Now the name makes sense huh? That's real talk; and as ever we have media to showcase his work available below including a freestyle over a Scott Storch production and a cut with dubcnn regular Wyze Randal.
Truth - Who Am I (Prod. By Wreck Wregular)
Truth - Real OG's (Feat. Wyze Randal) (Prod. By Publik)
Truth - Let That Go
Truth - Best Of Both Hoodz (Freestyle) (Prod. By Scott Storch)
Look out for Truth on his upcoming releases which include "Nu Money", "Strictly for the Misses" & "Best of Both Hoodz" mixtapes as well as his as yet untitled debut album.

Aey! This cat is nice, and he coming from the south to. I thought cats from the south was getting washed up, but once you think it's over for the south somebody else hot come along, I like his voice, delivery, and his overall ideas for the songs. But he gotta step it up antoher notch if he wants to reign supreme. Don't get me wrong, But I see this kid making it, being one of the down south bosses like Bun B, Pimp C, Luda, I think he could be mentioned with the big boys, Just need to stay consistant, Come with some better topics, everybody's talking about killing and *hit. I want to hear him switch it up.........
