De La Hoya Sets Date For Mayweather
« on: May 07, 2006, 06:27:23 PM »
This has to be an error. However, this article states that Mayweather will be De La Hoyas Next opponents on September 16th. It also states that De La Hoya said it himself.

it's from the UK, so I don't know how england got this info and the U.S. didnt, but read it.

I doubt it's official. Oscar said last night, he's gonna sit on it for awhile.

Plus Oscar has to find a new trainer since Mayweather Sr. isn't gonna train Oscar to potentially kick his son's ass.

I've read a lot of reports that have stated that Pay-per view and other big media outlets are going to push for a hoya-mayweather fight. Mayweather is considered the best fighter in boxing. Yet, he has yet to face a boxer that is of his caliber. Ali had Frazier. Tyson and Holyfield. Hoya had Tito, but Mayweather has nothing. I think a lot of analysts believe that the oscar we have now is still mayweathers best competitor.

It's either Mayweather or Trinidad, and in '06, nobody is really checking for Tito anymore.

Just got finished reading another article. In a post conference de la hoya was asked if he would fight again and against who. De la hoya responded.

"That's still up in the air, but I know who I'd want to fight. You'll be surprised."

then asked when would he want to fight next, he responded...

"September 16th."

then when asked if there is a chance he will retire from the sport, he responded.

"Big Chance"
