Quote from: phillyboy on May 19, 2006, 07:02:53 PMWell alot of fans out here do hate on the west, and Im sure people in Cali hate on the East too. Its all ignorance, if ur not accustomed to another syle of music, an immature person is gonna hate. Alot of Cali styles are hard to swallow for someone whos had nuthing but the pop music all their lives. But thats tupid to me, everyone from out here that I played WC music for eventually likes most of itLOL, ain't nobody from Cali that should accusing East Coast cats of only liking "pop music". All Cali ever puts out is the same ol' "I'm so gangsta, rep that Wesssyyyde, C-walk to this, cuzz" shit that it's been putting out for the past fifteen years. Besides, what do you think G-Funk was considered 10 years ago? POP, homie, it was a pop-gangsta sound, and most of the artists that made G-Funk made it for pop audiences. At least in the East Coast has the full range of hip-hop, from gangsta to conscious, grimey to club, etc. - the West needs to learn from that before niggas like you make such ignorant statements about the East.Never, EVER say anything so stupid again.

You make it sound like the west never had anything other than gangsta music. Sure, the most famous artists have usually been on the gangsta tip, but anybody who knows more than a lil about west coast rap knows that there is a very large range of artists here just as it is in NY.

But the album sales don't lie...the West is stagnate right now.I'm mostly reacting to him for implying that all East Coast rap is pop music...that's a far more ignorant statement in comparison.
For the most part, yes it is. More of the Eastcoast music gets on TV & radio, in turn making it pop. Im from NJ, still live there and the MAJORITY of people here listen to whats on the radio, and buy the albums. So Im saying, people out here hate on the West becuase NOW its very different from what we got. The fuck you gettin so hurt over my statement for anyways

Just because most of what's on TV and radio is from the East, that automatically makes the East pop? The East Coast has as many Mos Defs and Talibs as it does 50s and Diddys, whereas the ratio of Ras Kass-type rappers to Pac/Snoop wannabes is extremely disproportionate. What...you think 10 years ago, West Coast cats weren't listening only to the radio? When Pac, Snoop, Warren G, Dogg Pound, etc. was the only shit radio was playing back then? What kinda shit you on?People hate on the West because it's full of cats who can't do nothing except brag about how gangsta they are, what set they claim, etc. over and over and over...and you think that's "different"? It's called being "uncreative", homie. And that's why nobody gives a fuck about the West anymore...because it's irrelevent to hip-hop today, unlike the East.
No thats not why people out here dont like it. The Dipset is one of the most popluar groups out here and they always on that gangsta shit. Whats on TV is what the people out here listen too, instead of looking for underground shit. And that Mos Def/Talib thing isnt very popluar out here. Also, keep in mind that Southern California isnt the only place in that state where music comes from, and out here we are hearing way more Bay than SoCal

The fact is, there is far more versatility in the East than in the West. There are not nearly as many conscious/political rappers in the West as there are gangstas, whereas the East is far better balanced. And your argument is ridiculous because it acts like the West is so different that it can never cross over...my point is, 10 years ago, G-Funk was the definition of crossover thug-pop shit.Stop glorifying the West and downplaying the East when it's quite obvious which is producing better music right now.
Its not based around what I hear on the radio, its based on what PEOPLE AROUND ARE LISTENING TOO. I never said the West was more versatile, but right now, there isnt much coming outta NY, people out here are mostly listening to the South. And dude youre the one saying Cali is all "Im gangsta, rep my set" all that. Im just giving you a reason why people out here would hate, or not be open to the West coast. I also believe taht at the moment, The West IS putting out better product than the East
Eastcoast has developed and produces more quality rappers than Westcoast.
