Hiphop popularity?
« on: January 31, 2002, 10:36:41 PM »
man i'm a little stuck in my exam assignment, so imma ask yall, why do y'all think that hip hop has survived and become increasenly popular since the days of Kool Herc?

My opinion is that hip hop is a mixture of alot of different music styles, and therefor it's very consistent. But what is it that makes it increasenly popular so artists like mariah carey and jennifer lopez starts to "hip hopalize ;D" their music?

thanks

I find with hip-hop it can grow on you instantly, it's something that once u hear it, you either love it or hate it. I think there's sooo many different styles that there's alot to choose from & it spreads out so it's hard to get bored with it. Alot of people can relate to hip-hop too, & alot of people's reasons for listening to music is that, including myself. It's been described as the voice of the youth, and that is very true.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

wat draws many ppl to hip-hop/rap is dat itz jus real..
there is no form of music which talks abt the real truths of earth like hip-hop.... everyone knows that all these other pop stars jus sing abt fantasy worlds and stuff...but hip-hop is down to earth..they talk abt da real problems on earth..
so yes some ppl like it and some ppl just dont!!

whats makes it so popular is tha fact that u can relate to it either indirectly or directly an it is or was at one time real.  When a rapper talks about comin up through hard times u know for tha most part they aint bullshitting.  When a rocker bitches about how unfair life is i dont feel it b/c it by some guy tha came up in tha burbs an has no tru feelin of what hard times are an now there rich an famous they r loaded an can have any ho he wants.  Pop music is about bubble gum bull shit that when a person is going through hard times is suptin the dont wanna hear about
