Anyone See The Documentary Gang Wars?
« on: January 31, 2002, 01:54:30 AM »
I saw this documentary many years ago... it's quite old, but when I first saw it, I thought nothing of it.

However last night, I'm just chilling with the TV on and I come accross this channel with a whole bunch of thuggish kids jumping around and each one draped in blue... so it caught my eye and I started watching it. Well it was the documentary "Gang Wars" and it was filmed in 92/93 in Little Rock Arkansas, which at the time was the city with the biggest gang problems. Everyday another kid was shot down and many injured. Well the whole idea of the documentary was to let us see what it was like for these kids and I was shocked... another part of the documentary deals with this officer who actually goes and converses with these kids and he really attaches to the crips. He talks to them and he's like "it doesn't matter what color you are, if your a blue rag, or a red rag, you all bleed red and this needs to stop" and he goes around to each side of the town, one side for the bloods, the other for the crips... and whats fucked up is that a lot of the families are split because of the gang affiliation, one part of the family is blood, the other crip... so the film continues and then at the end, the shit gets serious... while filming, one of the crips tells the camera man to come in the house quickly because of a "186" which means to be on alert because there are bloods in the area...... fifteen minutes later, while the film is rolling... a car starts to drive past the house and one of the crips stands on his porch... then... POP POP POP POP... shots fired... the camera man ducks in a car... the crips book for shelter... luckily no one was shot, but one of the young kids is like... "you see what we deal with everyday... we can't even enjoy our own porch..."   another kid says "when I grew up... we had to worry about a loose pet, now we have to worry about bullets flying by our house... times are changing"  So the documentary basically comes down to an end... where the people decide they might try a truce and resolve things... and i was quite informed in this documentary, but I had one last shocker when this young kid started speaking... he said

People have nowhere to go, all we gonna do is kick it, kick it in our hoods, What are we gonna do? We might as well go kill a couple of niggas man... go in their hood...do a drive by, then come back in the hood and laugh about this stuff... you know, just sit there and think... the only time you gonna get deep into it, is when one of your friiends dies, just like one of my partners dies............

If you dont know that quote... it's from the Nate Dogg song "First We Pray..."   I always thought that it was just a skit before the song, but it's word word from this young kid in the documentary... same voice... everything... now when I listen to this song, I'll just remember that young kid... looked confused as hell.... like WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DO..........

There were some funny parts too... the funniest part is when a whole bunch of girls are dancing in the streets to DRE DAY... and they start rapping Snoop's part... theres also music by MC Eiht in the documentary.... some real shit!

Yeah that was Bangin' In Little Rock on HBO. That shit was CLASSIC. Them Bloods & Crips was legit but them white boys who claimed Folk Nation were the fakest weakest cats I've ever seen. They had like 5 members in their gang and 2 were girls LOL! When that drive by happen to them Crips that shit was real.
