Johnny Cash - The Legend Of Johnny Cash
« on: June 27, 2006, 02:17:40 AM »
well, i watched Walk The Line early this year with no pre-conceptions and little knowledge of JC, just some of his famous tunes and was amazed by the film (Joaquin Phoenix deserved an oscar imo) - and recently downloaded and then bought the album "The Legend Of Johnny Cash" - love it, really thoroughly good album....just wondered if anyone else was an old fan or a new one as a result of the film? Im more than happy i got into it through the film, proves that a great story and well adapted movie can do wonders for latecomers to an artist...

I only know a few Johnny Cash songs ('Tennessee Stud' to name one, off the Jackie Brown OST) but I heard that Joaquin did one hell of a good job in "Walk The Line" (he sung the songs himself, not like Jamie Foxx in "Ray").

I'm gonna go rent the movie this week...I might end up buying a JC album.

Country music is very misunderstood and underrated, Johnny Cash was of course 1 of a kind, but there are several country musicians with similarly moving stories that would instantly make you fans if you got into it.  Great movie, I loved it, especially Reese's portrayal of June Carter.

Never seen the movie, but a long time Cash fan.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

i think the movie is twice as better as "Ray" even tho they kinda remind me of each other.

"Walk The Line" I would consider the best musical biography-type film I've ever seen.  It's better than Ray, the Buddy Holly Story, La Bamba, Elvis & Me, Deadman's Curve, Great Balls Of Fire, The Temptations, honestly it's the best one anybody's ever done.  The genius in it is that they made it about Johnny & June's love life instead of just about the music.
