Rock The Bells Review
« on: August 06, 2006, 04:04:23 AM »
Well I Arrived at 12, found out the gates opened at 11, and i missed most of the opening acts, Including Dead Neto And Planet Asia.
Anyway.....Murs Came up after we all got all of our VIP stuff (backpack, shirt, poster, lanyard, drink tickets, etc.) And Rocked it, Played strictly songs off Murray's Revenge & 3:16, And Dirty Girl From Felt 2. After Murs, Self Scientific Rocked a VERY short set that had most of their tracks from Their New album....They played "Tears" my favorite song they have. After Self Scientific were the Visionaries, And they know "How to Rock The Spot!" ...Performed Blessing, I Love Hip Hop, If you cant Say Love, And some new tracks that had people jumping and putting their hands up, Their Energy is Unbelieveable. After The Visionaries, B-Real came on and performed tracks off his Gunslinger Mixtape (His DJ was Fred Wreck) then said he wanted to do some old school shit...but he couldnt do it without his "Perro" and he called for his "Perro" Sen Dog And They Performed Hand On The Pump, How I could just Kill A Man, and other classics. After Cypress Hill, DEL the funky homosapien came up, he was "alright" IMO, he has had WAAY better shows and more energy, he was lacking something, Opio came and helped him out towards the end of his set. He performed his classics, But NO 3030!!! wtf!! Anyway, After Del Was Immortal Technique and Dude has MAD energy, Literally.....He literally gave a wake up call to everyone. he ended his set with "Dance with the Devil" and afterwards brought out Psycho Realm to Rock The House and ALL the cholos and mexicans around me RUSHED the stage, me and my girl got almost to the front (thank you) They performed 2 songs and were out. After Immortal Technique was Aesop Rock, DUDE WAS GARBAGE! I cant stand anything, his DJ was cool, the mixing was dope, but IMO Aesop rock sucks big balls, i dont want to hear about planets and shit, it was wack, NEXT! - The Living Legends Came on Next And Opened to "Yeah" the track Produced By Madlib, And Performed the Classic: Rabbit Hole, Night Prowler, Aesop Did "Awakining" and Sunspot Did "Angels With Dirty Faces" CMA did "Windows" The Whole Crew Did "Classic" "Never Falling Down" And They Perfromed Some New 3mg....Good set. After The Living Legends Came Dilated People and They Had the place Jumping, Opened with Live on Stage, Performed all their classics "Worst Comes To Worst" "This Way" "No Retreat". In Between Their Set they brought out Defari and he rocked some new tracks off his Album coming next week. After Dilated were the Great DE LA SOUL! the only people I have not Seen Live, and They Did Not Dissapoint....Played Buddy, Me, Myself And I, And in between Their Performance they brought out Black Sheep and they performed "This Or That".....And Phife from A Tribe Called Quest Also Came out and Performed Classic Tribe Tracks "Check The Rhime" "Award Tour" and others......Great Set, De LA soul ended with Rock Co Flow and bounced. Redman came on next and had a decent but similar set that was very predictable, he brought out Dj Kool again and he performed "Let me clear my throat" and Redman Performed "I get so high" "Time 4 some Akshion" and "React" and Freestyled pretty good in the middle of his set.
After Redman was Talib Kweli, Kweli Ripped it, Playing his classics, "Move somethin" "I try" "Get By" And Brought out Planet Asia To Freestyle and Also Brought out Krondon And Phil da Agony to perform a track And in between right before Mos Def came on, something weird happend, Kweli's Voice Changed when he was freestyling about supernat, i swear i thought it was someone else on stage but his voice got all deep all of a sudden and when Mos Came out and they performed "Respiration" and "Definition" he kept that deep voice with him. Sadly, those were the only Blackstar songs i remember them playing, Mos then came on and performed New stuff and sang a lot, He even said some of the stuff from the Juggernaut Bitch Cartoon "Shut the fuck up Charles" - and "you like this crimson red, Im laughy taffy mutha fucka" lol....he performed his classics towards the end of his set and ended with Ms. Fat Booty, and was out.....After Mos Def, the Suprise act LAURYN HILL came out and performed a short set with a live band backing her......it was aight, but right before that my friend fainted and we needed to bounce outta where we were so we were waay in the back her entire performance, she performed her classics but she did not perform "Everything Is Everything" like i wanted her to...I think she left permaturely because people were yelling for Wu Tang. After Ms. Hill, WU TANG CAME......With a big Wu Tang Backdrop behind them and A ODB painting near the DJ booth, they all sang along to Dirty's Parts in Songs, it was cool, but we left permaturly before their set ended and the show ended to beat the traffic and to eat.

During the entire time, Supernatural was Freestyling in the Vip Section for 9 HOURS! he broke the Guinness Record and he came on before Kweli's set and with his voice almost gone, he Freestyled AGAIN! Amazing! Hip Hop History.

But Seriously, You dont know how bad I wanted to sleep and i was literally Yawning during Aesop Rocks Set, He Sucked Balls And The White Boy Backpackers were eating it up, it was dis-pik-able.

Yea, i got there late...right after Dilated Peoples finished there set.  Steve-O was up on stage when Wu-Tang was performing and he told a story about how he was in the same cell in LA County Jail as ODB was in once.  Then he got fully undressed and did a backflip.  About 15 minutes later music stopped and Raekwon was like, "Imma punch this muthafucka...I don't care if I go to jail".  He felt it was disrespectful for Steve-O to do that during an ODB tribute with ODB's mom standing right there.  He made Steve-O apologize to ODB's mom and the show continued.

dope review, I pretty much felt the same way about the show.

co-sign about Wu...alot of those bands played a similar set to what they did last year like Red and Talib.  Although I do have to say that last years was by far the best one I've been too with second coming at Anaheim Stadium when ATCQ performed.

yo what else did you get with the VIP tickets?  I got regular ass tickets and felt like I fucked up after seeing backpacks, a shaded tent to sit in, and t-shirts everyone seemed to get if they paid for VIP.  Someone else said you got drink tickets too.

It was Way Worth it, I spent $200 on Clothes and Drinks and water at the show Though beyond the fact that I had VIP and had 2 drink tickets as well with a hard liquor bar in the back. Most of the artists were chillin in VIP too, like Sunspot Jonz and Aesop and B-Real....But yeah, This was my Vacation and I spend a lot of money like i was out somewhere and it was well worth it, cant wait til next Year!!!
