The short of it, if you don't want to read it: Sony made a total of 279 million dollars profit last quarter, and would have made much, much more, except their SCE (Sony Computer Entertainment) which makes the PS3, PS2, PSP, and PS1 lost more than 232 million dollars for the year, bringing down profits for the entire huge media conglomerate.  This is after all licenses, accessories, games and online subscriptions, after all positive dollar figures are thrown in, Sony still lost their ass.

Microsoft recently announced that they lost over 1 billion dollars on their home gaming systems in the past year; Nintendo recently announced that they made 113 million dollars PROFIT over the past 3 months, making Nintendo clearly the winner of the current console wars, and the only profitable company making video game systems as we speak.

BTW, for those keeping score: In the past 3 months, Sony sold 2.2 million PSP's.

Nintendo sold 4.5 million DS' systems in the past 3  months.

The most interesting: Nintendo is projecting to sell 6 million Nintendo WII units in it's first 5 months on the market, Sony is also claiming they will sell 6 million PS3 units on their first 5 months on the market.  Early word is that Nintendo will beat Sony to market by about 2 weeks.  Nintendo's last system, the "DS" has beat even their own sales predictions.

Thats the point... sony doesnt make money on their systems.  The more ps3's they sell, the more they'll lose.  It's fuckin insane.

The casual gamers won't care, they'll just move on to the next system.
