Nuggets Sign Sampson

DENVER, Jul. 28 -- The Denver Nuggets have signed F/C Jamal Sampson to a contract, team Director of Player Personnel Mark Warkentien announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Sampson, 6-11, 235, has averaged 2.4 ppg and 3.9 rpg in 50 career games over four seasons with Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte and Sacramento.
Originally drafted after his freshman season at California by the Utah Jazz in the second round (47th overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft , Sampson’s draft rights were traded to the Orlando Magic and then to the Milwaukee Bucks on June 26, 2002.
Sampson signed with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent on July 24th, 2003. He was then selected by the expansion Charlotte Bobcats from the Lakers in the NBA Expansion Draft on June 22, 2004. Sacramento signed him as a free agent on August 10th 2005 where he played 12 games for the Kings last season.

Ariza to remain with Magic
Orlando re-signs the small forward to a 3-year deal valued at about $8 million.

Trevor Ariza was thrilled to be traded from New York to Orlando in February, leaving behind the struggling Knicks. He was even happier to get re-signed Thursday by the Magic.

Ariza, a restricted free agent, signed a three-year contract for an estimated $8 million (the third year is a player option), adding to the Magic's depth at small forward.
"From Day 1, his heart has been in Orlando. He likes the city, the team, the organization,'' said David Lee, his agent. "We really never made any effort to go anywhere else. It was just a matter of coming to terms here.''

Ariza, 21, will be going into his third NBA season, giving the Magic a young, athletic small forward behind Hedo Turkoglu and Grant Hill. He originally was a second-round pick by the Knicks in 2004 after just one year at UCLA.

He joined the Magic at midseason, coming with Penny Hardaway in the trade of guard Steve Francis. The Magic quickly waived Hardaway, but they wanted to keep Ariza (6 feet 8, 210 pounds) to see how his game develops.

Although his jump shot remains suspect, his ability to drive and score, rebound offensively and defend small forwards made the Magic's decision to keep him an easy one.

"He is a key part of our young core,'' Magic General Manager Otis Smith said. "His explosiveness will be a great asset at both ends of the floor.''

Other teams had shown interest in him before the Knicks traded him, but the interest around the league as a restricted free agent was minimal, possibly because the Magic could have matched any offer and automatically kept him.

In 57 games last season, he averaged 4.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and one steal in 17.5 minutes. He reached double-figure scoring four times with the Magic. He had 13 points and 12 rebounds in one game against the Indiana Pacers.

Looks like Kareem Rush is DEFINITELY not gunna be a Magic, as was expected earlier this month...I still have hopes of seeing him in a Laker uniform. As for the signings, Magic is definitely on an uprise, and Jamal Sampson never lived up to potential, though he always looked like he COULD be a serviceable NBA big...He hasn't really proved much in the NBA...PeACe

He's still a possibility. The Magic have JJ Reddick now so who knows how they'll feel about Rush.

Well, they wanted Rush well after they drafted Reddick...I think they lost interest though, because there hasn't been much about it. Bobcats gave his ass a bad name, I used to like them, but fuck that shit...I mean, they still have some nice prospects, but Bickerstaff is a fucking douche-bag...Phil Jackson better find a way to get Rush, cuz I know he wants him...Pinnock, Green, & Wafer can work on their game in the mean time...PeACe

Yeah Phil was pissed at how the Bobcats did Rush. He was even upset at the Lakers organization for letting him go, KR was always one of his favorite players.

Jaron Rush was ill...He had attitude problems which drove him out of the NBA and now Kareem Rush is standing in his shaddow...People aren't giving him the chance, because they think he's just another version of his brother...Dude has all-star potential, muthafuckaz just need to exploit it...And yea, he was workin' out with the Nets a few days ago, I dunno what the chances are that he'll end up with them though...PeACe

There's little chance he'll end up in Orlando. The Magic have Turkoglu, Bogans, Ariza, and Redick who all play the SG or SF and Travis Deiner who plays either guard spot and thrown in Garrity who plays both Forward spots, and with Howard as the PF he'll see little time there.
