BECKEL: Pat, you say in the Hispanic culture in the Southwest it is a culture that will take over the Southwest and essentially make the Southwest of the United States part of America but not really part of America. Let me ask you this the Irish and Italian came to New York and brought their culture here. Eastern Europeans went to the north-northwest part of the Midwest, the Germans and Scottish went to the Appalachians and brought their culture with them. Whats different?

BUCHANAN: One thing thats different in the year 2050 there will be 102 million people of Hispanic descent, primarily Mexican, wholly concentrated in the American Southwest. Thats one thing. The second thing is Mexicans, unlike Irish or German folks, never claimed America as their country. They owned it. 58% of Mexicans believe the southwest belongs to them. The third thing is, they were assimilated. There powerful assimilation movement in this country that does not exist right now and in so the point of the thing is, they are not assimilated into America. Many Hispanics, as a matter of fact, you know what culture they are assimilating to? the rap culture, the crime culture, anti-cops, all the rest of it.

--- End quote ---

From reading just this I can't see where he calls rap un-American. Now I cannot comment on the difference between Mexicans and Irish because I don't know the facts but if what Buchanan says is true that 58% of Mexicans that come over believe the Southwest is Mexico and not embracing it as America then Buchanan is right to say that most Mexicans aren't assimilating. Now whether they should have to and whether they are right to think they have stake in the South West as Mexican land is another issue altogether. However there is a difference between bringing your culture with you to a new land and embracing that land as it is, and bring your culture to that land and claiming it as your own. When the Americans took over that land to begin with it's what they did and I'm sure there were a lot of people in Mexico who were opposed to that just like Buchanan is now. Spain took it from the natives, and the Mexicans took it from Spain. Then the Americans took it from the Mexicans and now Buchanan feels that the Mexicans may be trying to take it back. It's with in his rights to make that claim and with in his rights to want to defend America.

Of course he could be dead wrong. There are many Mexicans in that area as we speak and I've yet to hear of many stories concerning any sort of militia style take over of the south west. Now if the population becomes more Mexican than white that may change but I can't see why one should automatically assume so, and why many aren't just coming over in search of the American dream or what have you.

As for Hip Hop being unAmerican. I don't think he is saying that. I think he is saying that Mexicans don't embrace American culture in general and that many embrace an anti-American or at least anti-Government American sub-culture. He rap quickly and then said crime, and anti-cop. His wording could have been better but I don't think he was singling out rap or calling it unAmerican.

Is there more in the the transcript that shows his views with regards to rap being unAmerican?

And to whoever mentioned Godfather, Goodfellas , and Angels; keep in mind that those movies were heavily criticized by Italian-American and Irish-American Defamation leagues for beign anti-Italian and anti-Irish in that they were painting bad pictures of otherwise oppressed hard working citizens. The Irish were originally brought over as indentured servants, essentially slaves and forced to work the land for no money. This was before Black slavery became extremely popular in the late 1600s. Italians were brought in for specialized manual labour and lived in slums when they arrived. They were stereotyped as dirty sub human drones controlled by the Mafia, and the Italians were subject to lynching. Most Italians don't even know about that. In 1891, 11 Italian Americans were lynched on New Orleans at the same time and it was the largest single mass lynching in American History. Please do not confuse the White British oppressor culture with the White Irish or Italian oppressed culture.

Even Walker's Polish ancestory has gone through as much bullshit oppression as any other group in the world.

D-Reborn:
i think we´ll always have a problem as long as we dont admit that not all muslims are terrorists, not all white people are racists and not all black and latinos are "dangerous" and shit for society, but i guess it´ll be like that forever unless we do something  :-\

I'm not Irish or Italian. These aren't my "peoples". I'm just stating the too often ignored facts. The white oppressor wants blacks to believe these myths because it keeps them down, and they want the poor whites to think they were all part of the problem so they feel guilty. In the end it only hurts the black people of America.

My "peoples" were from Greece and were taken over by Turks in 1460, 30 years before Europe even went to Africa, and 200 years before they started enslaving Africans and buying African slaves. My "peoples" were oppressed by the Ottoman Empire until 1827, an dsome until 1915. That's longer than black slavery.

I strongly feel that if the plight of the poor white man in America was made more public that there would be greater unity and the black community would end up better. But the the rich white man would be in trouble. And the rich man never gets in trouble. The southern slave were better off after the emancipation than before it. What ever they lossed on having to pay blacks they made up in not having to house and feeed them, and then some.

Dude, Germans "did something wrong" to Jews as recently as 50 years ago, you don't see me complaining and bitching...Am I supposed to have deep hatred for Germans now and invent a judgement day for them in my head?
