« on: September 17, 2006, 01:34:21 PM »
Ok I just got a desktop adapter to set up a network on my home computer, the installation read seemed easy, take off back cover of computer, insert adapter into an available pci slot, secure, put cover back on, turn on computer, install drivers, then restart. thats it.

so now i had to setup the network it says,

The Network connections listed below are disconnected. Plug in your network cables or otherwise connect your network hardware

Code: [Select]
Local Area Connection 2 D-Link DFE-530tx+ PCI Fast Ethernet adapter (rev. F)

im connected through comcast and i don't understand how im supposed to connect anything from the modem to the adapter, if anyone has a clue what i am asking please help me.

have you got a network cable plugged into the network card?

if its plugged into a modem that has 2 ports (LAN and WAN) , you'll need a CROSSOVER cable (probably) , if it's plugged into a modem/router that has more than 2 ports (WAN port, and multiple LAN ports), you'll need a normal network cable

there's a slot in your router that is reserved for the cable of the modem, just put them wires between these twos, the other slots are for the computers

I think i might need a network cable but the package i bought came with a WAL (Wake on LAN) connection, it connects from the adapter to the motherboard, but im not totally sure what it does, let me know if i make sense im a lil drunk.
