Just my 2 cents on it...

Dre needed some "help" to get out of his deal with Ruthless so he got Suge. He even said in his interview "I dont know what went down, but I got out of my contract". Suge helped him do that. Now as far as money I dont know, (threatening Vanilla Ice, etc) but sometimes you need that mobster kind of boss to get things done. Suge doing business like that allowed Dre to just focus on the music. Dre directed the ship as far as artists were concerned and Suge was upholding the law so to speak.

I can assure you many a deal got signed for Death Row just off of scare tactics. Once Dre left, Suge still had good artists but not that Executive Producer like Dre. Suge's empire fell apart after Pac died and Snoop left. If they would have stayed, Daz probably would have overtaken Dre's spot (Overseer of Gang Related for example) and Suge's label would still be making hits probably. But once all his artists left, Suge does not have that leverage because you do not have anything people want to fuck with. If you wanted to do business with Snoop back in the day, you gotta you through Suge.

It's kinda like working with Don King. You will have a chance to be a great champion but at a price. Suge got away with alot after Dre left on the name when he was signing artists. But he did not know how to run the business from a music standpoint. That was Dre's old job. Dre is older and wiser now and has alot more money to run a label the way he wants. He could not do that 10-15 years ago. That was were Suge came in.

Game to me is more of a artist. He really does not have any qualities to me that say CEO. He can promote the hell out of himself though. Man, he had a dope group with MOB. Imagine if Dre would have done some production on a MOB album and mixed it.  :o

Death Row swiftly died because Suge was in jail and because all of the negative media coverage that followed after that. There was much more to D.R. than just Dre, if that MGM incident didn't happen and Pac would still be alive and Suge wouldn't have been send to jail , it would have been business as usual at D.R.... Still big and getting bigger while ranking out the hits WITHOUT Dre!

And how is Aftermath bigger than ever?? Bad Boy, No Limit, Cash Money, Death Row, Murder Inc etc those labels were real big, like a family with different artists dropping albums and doing things... What do we get from Aftermath? Dre is probably THE man in hip hop with all the right connections yet he can't seem to make Aftermath a dynasty like it should have been... Dre fucked up his changes of making his label a household name cause even to this day it simply isn't.

Dre is a hip hop legend without a doubt but let's not get it twisted...
