The 2006 North Korea nuclear test, North Korea's first, was reportedly carried out on October 9, 2006 approximately 10:35:27 AM local time, nearly a week after North Korea claimed that it was planning to perform a test. The Korean Central News Agency, the country's state news agency, issued the following statement.
--- Quote --- The field of scientific research in the DPRK successfully conducted an underground nuclear test under secure conditions on October 9, 2006, at a stirring time when all the people of the country are making a great leap forward in the building of a great, prosperous, powerful socialist nation. It has been confirmed that there was no such danger as radioactive emission in the course of the nuclear test as it was carried out under scientific consideration and careful calculation.
The nuclear test was conducted with indigenous wisdom and technology 100 percent. It marks a historic event as it greatly encouraged and pleased the KPA and people that have wished to have powerful self-reliant defense capability. It will contribute to defending the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the area around it.
--- End quote ---
U.S. officials have reported that the government of the People's Republic of China was given a 20-minute advance warning that the test was about to occur. The PRC sent an emergency alert to Washington through the United States embassy in Beijing and President George W. Bush was told shortly after 10 p.m. that a test was imminent by National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley.

Primo:
Yeah congratulations to a country with an idiot like Kim Jong Il as a leader playing around with nuclear weapons. ::) I'm against any country having them. Every country has a right to nuclear power for its people but not a nuclear bomb.
virtuoso:
This is the truth of the matter, north korea has been threatening to nuke america on almost a monthly basis. It is one of the most barbaric cruelest and inhuman places on earth and yet the talk is about attacking Iran. What can we concur from that? well that Iran does not have the real threat and North Korea does.
Primo:
Should be interesting to see what happens over the next few days ;D There wont be anymore west coast to have a WCC if North Korea isn't disarmed.
