classic albums?
« on: December 12, 2001, 05:33:24 PM »
I'm tired a long with others i think of people saying albums are classic as soon as they come out.  Classic is also a term that is very overused these days, especially when it comes to albums.  A album needs to stand the test of time before it can be considered a classic.  you might really like an album now, but in a year, you might never listen to it again...  A classic album might not be an instant hit right away as well.  A lot of times songs and albums need to grow on people, people need time to adjust to the beats and rhymes, and then later they might love the album.  Look at albums like doggystyle and the chronic and some of 2pac's albums, people still listen to them all the time now( i know their are a lot more classic albums, i just named the first ones that came to mind)... we can only tell if a album is classic if 5+ years or so from now, people are still bangin it.  I don't think people should say " so and so's next album is gonna be a classic" before they even heard it or before it even dropped, or even right after they listen to it for that matter.  Be patient and give it time, your love for an album might wear off after a little while, so with declaring albums classic, all i gotta say is don't do it right away, wait a few years and then see, cause that is we will probably know for sure...

A classic album is one which stands the test of time. However, its still fine to give an album 5 mics when it first comes out, cuz can ratings can change over time. Right now, I still consider Jay Z's "The Blueprint" to be a 5 mic album, but we'll see how it sounds a few years from now. Now, here are some albums that are DEFINATE classics in my book, no specific order of greatness:

Nas--Illmatic
Dr. Dre--The Chronic
Outkast--Southernplayalistic
Jay Z--Reasonable Doubt
Snoop Dogg--Doggystyle
Wu Tang Clan--36 Chambers
Biggie--Ready To Die
2Pac--Me Against The World
Tribe Called Quest--Midnight Marauders
Bone Thugs N Harmony--E.1999 Eternal
Scarface--The Diary
Ice Cube--The Predator
Mobb Deep--The Infamous
Gang Starr--Hard To Earn
Redman--Dare Iz A Darkside
GZA--Liquid Swords
2Pac--All Eyez On Me
Outkast--ATLiens
Bone Thugs N Harmony--Creepin On Ah Come Up
Public Enemy--Fear Of A Black Planet
Raekwon--Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
The Beastie Boys--Pauls Boutique
The Beastie Boys--Ill Communication
Outkast--Aquemini
Gang Starr--Moment Of Truth
2Pac--Makaveli
Ice Cube--Amerikkkaz Most Wanted

ALL of these are incredible, though these are my personal favs: Me Against The World, E.1999 Eternal, ATLiens, 36 Chambers, Illmatic, Ready To Die, The Chronic, All Eyez On Me, Moment Of Truth, Cuban Linx/Liquid Swords, Illmatic, and The Infamous are my personal favs.
