SNES was the first i recall having those?

dont think the megadrive (genesis) did

Yeah, the Snes controller had the first shoulder triggers. The first Megadrive pads were only 3-button, although the six button version may have been the most useable pad ever made.

Don't forget that Nintendo helped pioneer a lot of the arcade revolution too with Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Radarscope, Popeye, etc.
