The article also states that the head of the monastery was involved in an extortion racket set up by Mahureqy, who was blackmailing families of young boys with whom he had had sexual relations with .The head of Al Moharaq Monastery, Bishop Sawyeres, released a statement that said Mahureqy was excommunicated from the Coptic Church in 1996 for "abandoning the traditions of the church and monasticism."The church did not deny the allegation against Mahureqy and said, "Since he was expelled, the monastery had no control over what actions he took, what cloths he wore or if he kept or shaved his beard."According to information obtained by the association, Mahureqy videotaped himself having sex with many young boys. The boys famalies later complained to police who confiscated the video.Minister of Interior Habib Al Adli personally ordered the arrest of the former monk, while the State Security Prosecution order him detained for 15 days.
