Former CIA analysts have discussed this in depth Israel created Hamas as a means of countering weaking and ultimately destroying the PLO. Remember the PLO were willing to recognise Israel? now even Hamas wants a ceasefire and Israel says no, you can't gloss this over.

Just take a look at a map of the west bank (one that shows Israeli and Palestinian areas) and you will see that Israel has no intention of letting the  West Bank Palestinians have a nation state of their own.

The West Bank is apart of Israel.
