Hooliganism
« on: December 04, 2006, 11:34:40 AM »
As some of you might know, last week my team Feyenoord played a match for the uefa cup against Nancy. And it turned out in riots. Not against Nancy supporters, but against the police. And the week before that, they played against blackburn rovers, and someone threw a glass (plastic) of beer against a rovers player. So the Uefa's attention was already on Feyenoord.

But what happened was, days before the match, feyenoord was already informed that hooligans were gonna riot in france. So they informed the authorities in Nancy and the club. And they put a letter on their website, asking fans to behave themself in nancy. So 1200 supporters buyed a ticked on the legal way (through feyenoord). Because Nancy wasnt prepared for this, they kept on selling tickets at the stadium and other places. So it was easy to get a ticket. So a lot of people who cant come in any stadium in Holland (theyre all Feyenoord supporters of course), bought an ''illegal ticket''. So a group of about 500 - 1000 supporters went on the way to Nancy, but most of them only went to nancy for 1 reason. For the rioting. Before the match even they were rioting in nancy, so the police got the group together and they escorted them to the stadium. This was a really dumb thing to do cuz these ''supporters'' were rioting all day. Once they were in the stadium they tried to get to the Nancy supporters, there was only glass or plastic between them. And then the police came and they used so much tear gass that the players on the field could see anymore.

So now the Uefa is gonna suspend Feyenoord for a long time from all European football. I dont think thats right cuz Feyenoord couldnt do anything against it, and the local authorities in Nancy werent prepared for this. And everybody know is talking how bad Feyenoord is.

But my question is, how is the hooliganism in your country? Cuz i know there used to be a lot of hooligans in Germany, Italy and ecspecially in England.

There hasnt really been much hoolagism in england lately, we have had incidents of players getting hit by coins thrown by fans. There is rarely any violence inside premiership stadiums. Im a season ticket holder at man utd and the only violence ive seen inside the ground was between united and celtic fans, that was because celtic fans were in the united section. That was only a few punches thrown , no chairs been ripped up etc. I imagine there tends to be more fighting in town centres away from the actual ground and also in the lower leagues. The only time i can think of fighting between fans in the premiership recently was fulham v chelsea last season, there was a pitch invasion at the end of the match and a few fights started, nothing major.

England fans at major tournoments usually start rioting and acting like idiots and sometimes there is trouble when club sides play abroad but english football seems to have sorted out any trouble that happens in grounds. There is strong segragation between fans in the ground and plenty of police seperating them.
