Hyphy Gone Wild, Bay Area Awards Erupts In Violence

Tuesday - December 5, 2006 by Dick JohnsonFights broke out during the Bay Area Rap Scene Awards (BARS) in California's San Mateo Expo Center this Saturday (December 2), police said.

According to Capt. Kevin Raffaelli, an uninvited group jumped on stage while a rowdy crew near the stage caused chaos. Identities of the disruptive groups weren't revealed. Raffaeli said cops were called into the venue at about 7:35 p.m., roughly 45 minutes before the six hour event was slated to end. Promoters ended up shutting down the show prematurely. Police says no one was arrested or injured.

The BARS awards traditionally honor the Bay Area artists who have had the biggest impact locally and on nationwide and international scales. E-40, Yukmouth, Keak Da Sneak, Too $hort, Keyshia Cole and Goapele were among the nominees for the evening.
