If YOU won the lottery...

Since I been down on my luck lately... (lost my job right before Thanksgiving)   ((It's a long story))  I been thinking about a lot of shit now that I have 'some' free time on my hands.   I've also been playin the lottery hoping for some kind of miracle, so far, to no avail... but I got to thinking about what I would do if I ever did win. Say you guys won like 10 or 20 mil... would you forget your friends and move somewhere exotic and live a completely different lifestyle??  Would you TRY to stay grounded and share your wealth with friends and family and 'take care' of everyone you love?  Would you spend your money foolishly and be broke in 5 years?? Would you donate half of it to charity??? 

I know money changes people, and I dont really know how I would react, but I think I'd be pretty much the same.  I'd buy my parents a new house...and pay off any debt they might have. Same thing for myself.  I'd throw a few thousand to everyone who helped me get to where I am now and made a impact in my life... make sure they were good money wise.  I'd of course buy a couple of new cars... not one for each day of the week and not anything too crazy... but maybe   sports car, an SUV and a daily driver/economy car.  I'd also try to open up a bar/small restaurant and get jobs for people I know and see where that goes.  Even if I lose like $100,000, it would be worth it just to try it for a year.  I'd definitely try to have my own business or maybe buy property and get extra income thru that and invest the rest of my $$$ so my grand kids are set.  What about you folks?

First I wouldnt tell nobody, just keep it to myself, then just spend in incriminates, nothing too obvious, and ill have a cover saying i have a new job as a stock broker and i hit a hot stock and its paying off, and now im investing in theses new stocks and they are hitting it off too....buy my parents a house, my bro and sisters cars, pay for my godson to go to college, buy all my close friends cars, Give to charities that I think are needy of my money (city of hope, prob. open up a boys & girls club in LA, or a YMCA or something like that, something that keeps kids out the streets) and the rest i would save, id still work, and id just save the rest until i turn 55, then id enjoy it all

Cool.. sounds reasonable.  Yea...if people think you have 20 million at your disposal then they might start looking for major handouts.  If they think you're slowly earning some bread...they'd be less needy.

I gotta follow up question to everyone who responds: would u give to charity? which Charities? how much?

I would give the entire 50% they are going to take out for taxes to charity, plus 15% of the amount i have left after taxes, and i already mentioned the charities i would give to, City of Hope and Various Scholarships for academic success and musicianship, plus boys and girls clubs and YMCA's.

I'd just pay off my parents debts if they have any still, and mine and my brother's student loans. Then I'd get myself some nice things - nothing major, but you know, nice. A new TV, a car (no Bentleys or anything), new computer etc. Have a nice nest egg buried saved up, and a little spending money of what's left over.

Here charity donations don't earn you any tax benefits, but I'd donate some. Something to help the kids, not sure what exactly.

id invest in some CD accounts with serious interest rates and put them there for my parents when they decide to retire. somethin like 1 million each. then id buy a crib in rural washington or tahoe, then move there and lay low doing regular day jobs living life and seeing where it takes me, take a couple vacations to NY and LA once a year, then chill in my woodland estate fucking around writing drinking etc for the rest of the year. do that until i get bored of life and decide i want to die

I'd give probably a quarter or so of it to my dad so he can do whatever he wants with it. I'd like buy him a nice house or somethin and put the money in his account and have it like open on his computer to see when he walks in and surprise him type of thing.
Then with the rest I'd throw it all in a savings account, take out like 2 mill or so to spend on various things like a new car, nice '92 or '93 VW Corrado and soup it up a bit.. pay off all mortgages, buy my grandpa a caddilac, get my mom a nice necklace or somethin'.. fix up the house/customize it a bit.. put 250k in university fund. Then I'd get my closest friends to write me down a list of what they want which isnt too much, and get them all somethin off that list or something like that. And like E-crazy said, keep it in the bank for when im 55.

Put half th e money in the bank. Buy 2 cars, buy my mom a house, move to Venice (Los Angeles), invest, and start my own business. And of course give some to charity. I may throw some dollars to my real friends, but that's it.

the first thing i would do is go buy a really comfortable couch, a nice big plasma tv, surround sound, and sit my ass down and smoke up some BOMB ass bud. ive been syaing this for 4 years now, so if i ever do win the lottery this is exactly what i would do. after that i would go to college and i would learn how to manage money and of course make it grow.

First I would disappear for about a week without telling anybody to clear my head in some really tropical paradise and to concentrate on how I can spend the money effectively. I would hook up family and friends. There is a difference between winning a million and if I won like 100 million I would do something to help people. I'm not a selfish person. I would invest in important scientific discoveries and things that would benefit humanity. I might even start an independant medical company for RNA-I treatment and actually make it affordable for the average to cure people of diseases.  This would give me the most satisfaction and I would feel like I accomplished something important which I would need with that much potential. I know most people will be greedy as fuck. I can't be like that since I am against money hungry dickheads.

I wouldn't move out my city. I wouldn't move into a big mansion.

I would want a home. If I won, I would maybe move to a house but a house you can call a home. Ya know?

Although, honestly, I'll never ever want to be rich!
