Now, the Kidds have his-&-her restraining orders

Jason Kidd and Joumana kissing in 2002.

Jason Kidd was just warming up when he punched his wife in the mouth seven years ago, her lawyer claimed yesterday.
The decade-long marriage between the New Jersey Nets star and Joumana Kidd was marred by other violent episodes - and now she's taken out a temporary restraining order against her husband, the lawyer said.

"A restraining order is based on violence," divorce lawyer Raoul Felder said.

Felder did not describe the extent of the violence or divulge details of the restraining order, which was hammered out after Joumana met with domestic violence investigators at Bergen County Family Court in Hackensack, N.J.

Kidd, 33, had taken out a restraining order against his wife earlier in the week. And in his divorce petition, Kidd claimed he was a battered husband and the victim of a "jealous and paranoid" woman who, among other things, bugged his computer and car.

Joumana Kidd, 34, has denied her husband's allegations and has suggested, via Felder, that she is prepared to accuse Kidd of cheating on her.

Her mother, Rita Samaha, said what really happened behind the doors of their sumptuous Saddle River, N.J., home will be revealed in divorce court. "All of this will be coming out," she said.

Kidd's lawyers had no comment yesterday.

Kidd pleaded guilty to spousal abuse and was ordered to take anger-management classes when he socked his spouse in 2000 after she gave him grief for eating their son's French fries. Since then, there had been no reports of discord in the Kidd household until the NBA star's divorce papers hit the fan.

The Kidds have three children. He also has an older child whom he fathered out of wedlock before his marriage to Joumana.

SNIPPET:
Once Jason Kidd's messy divorce hit the front pages, it put the Nets' struggles in a whole new light. It makes you wonder how much Kidd's personal life has taken a toll on his game, and whether the Nets' willingness to trade him has anything to do with his troubles at home. But he's been a dominant performer since he accused his wife Joumana of beating him up. "Jason will play better with all of this stuff out there," said a long-time associate. "He's the kind of guy who needs to have some sort of chip, some sort of motivation, to take out his anger on the court. This type of thing actually helps him focus." The way he's played lately pretty much confirms that.

This article claims it was Kidd's restraining order...

SNIPPET:
“If we can just stay mentally and physically strong on the defensive end, we’ll be fine,” Kidd said after the game in Chicago.

Defense is the theme of Kidd’s career and life now as he girds for a counterclaim of divorce from his wife, Joumana. The basketball court gives him refuge from what could become an ugly legal battle; Joumana has hired the high-profile Manhattan divorce lawyer Raoul Felder.

Kidd moved out of the couple’s house in Saddle River, N.J., to an undisclosed residence last month. On Dec. 27, the Nets bottomed out with a home loss to Houston, plummeting to seven games below .500. That was the same game, according to Kidd’s divorce papers and some Nets officials, when Joumana was shouting insults at him from across the court.

(Kidd took out a temporary restraining order against her last Monday, the day before he filed for divorce, restricting her from where he works or lives.)
