This is a very political album. I miss albums like this. He tells it like it is for the poor, the hustling and the oppressed. An that is not one race or religion. But I like how he preaches self improvement and getting your shit right. Someone should send this to President Bush's delusional ass.

yup i do agree...whattup Shame!!!!

HERE IS THE LATEST INTERVIEW CONDUCTED BY BIGWILL @ WCRYDAZ.COM

West Up. Bay Area rapper/producer Shame (also known for a time as Shame Lector), who has long been a fixture on WestCoastRydaz through both his music with the group Savage Life and more, has just released his entire “California” album for free download.

The 19-track album has been available for about one week on our forum and has received a very strong amount of support. The album touches on a variety of subjects beyond just music and has been regarded by many as a breath of fresh air in today’s hip-hop climate. We caught up with Shame to briefly talk about the album, his time spent working on it, why he decided to put it up for free and more.

WestCoastRydaz: First up, for anyone curious about it, you no longer go by shame lector?

Shame: That was really just something I was fuckin around with back in the day and it kind of stuck. The whole reason was because I was a fan of that character Hannibal Lector. Its basically always just been Shame.

WestCoastRydaz: Okay, good to know. Lets get into the album, how long were you working on it?

Shame: To be honest it’s been close to 2 years. I actually had about 35 songs completed but only about 15 made it besides the few interludes. Sometimes you have a great idea for a track and it just doesn’t turn out the way you want … other times songs you do in the moment become the best tracks in the project … plus you just never know what people will like. I’ve actually gotten some compliments on tracks that were previously dropped and then added again at the last minute so you just never can tell.

WestCoastRydaz: Yeah, from what we’ve seen people have really been loving the project, what made you decide to put it up for free?

Shame: This game is so saturated its crazy. Everybody thinks their shit is the hottest shit out and a lot of these dudes gas themselves up to the point that they think there overnight stars and shit. I’m personally offended by wack rappers that waste fans (including myself) time and money with low budget, no substance garbage. I love music homie … I love communicating with people and I’m honest in my art. You have to give a little to get a little and money will come with time.

WestCoastRydaz: That’s very true, speaking of communication with people, you have a lot of love on WCR, are you looking forward to all the fans here downloading your album?

Shame: So far its been great man. The feedback has been really positive. WCR in general has always been really supportive of us and it’s much appreciated. I’m looking forward to everyone’s opinions.

WestCoastRydaz: Yessir, lets talk about the features on the album, how did those collaborations come about?

Shame: Daddy Rich and I have been doing music together for a long time and we’re label mates so we always get down. I’ve been a fan of XL Middleton’s music since I first heard it a few years ago and he’s a real good humble dude so we connected on the title track. The homie Mic Entity, who people may have also seen on the forum, was good enough to be the one guest producer on the album and made the track for a song called “Perfect Man” that has gotten a really good response. Also my folks Hooli-auto (Savage Life) J-startus, and lil rube made appearances.

WestCoastRydaz: Aight, tell us what your hopes are for the album?

Shame: I really just want to build a solid fan base the old fashion way with good quality music man. I just wanna touch people and bring back that real life honest shit that everyone from the dude struggling in the streets to the kid in the burbs can relate to. I feel like we’re all connected in one way or another and being able to effectively communicate that connection is what makes an artist special.

WestCoastRydaz: That’s a great approach, hopefully we can help do our part in putting out that quality for the masses. What’s your myspace, for anybody who wants to network or give you feedback?

Shame: www.myspace.com/510shame Feel free to stop by and leave a message or comment … there are also links to some informational sites from my page. Never hurts to expand your mind man.

I’m also working on my next project, which should be out this summer/fall. So be on the look out. If you like the “California” album I guarantee you’ll feel it.
