I'm sorry, but saying you're into rap music and you don't feel Rakim is just straight blasphemy.  You people need to do your homework.  Half of these cats wouldn't even be rhymin' if it weren't for Ra (ask Kurupt).

There was a lot of cats out there before Rakim's time...so if it wasn't for acts like them Ra prolly wouldn't be in business...Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambata and Run DMC.

Yeah, "2001" was the first time we heard Hitt rap.  Before that, I remember reading about him a lot.  Then I saw his name on the, "Just Dippin" credits.

Yeah, that's just proving my point though.  I didn't say Rakim started rap, but he is widely recognized as being the one who took the art of rhyming to new heights, and inspired a lot of people to pick up the mic.  You can hear his influence in the flow of most mcs today.

damn man..  i can't believe people are hatin on 'The R'

Although todays artists use varying flows and techniques, Rakim is probably the biggest pioneer of things that are common place nowadays.

from a "West Coast" perpsective I want Hittman because we want to know what he's capable of, but looking at it from a 'bank' balance perspective Aftermath could be forced to drop Rakim, purely because its known that Rakim and the good doc are gonna be a top combo and will have wider appeal.

here are some snippets i found on the 'net

"Rakim is a poetical poltergeist," says Kurupt, former Dogg Pound potna. The man who queried, "Who's jokin? Rakim never joked / So why should I, loc?" (on Snoop Doggy Dogg's 1993 "For All My Niggaz & Bitches") (overseer :btw he's referring to Eric B & Rakims 'I Ain't No Joke' next line he says "Now that's my idol...") praises Ra as "perfectly precise. His lyrics are so potent, he doesn't have to scream to get his point across."

i also found this in an article on the 'net
"Being on Aftermath has possibly given another fan of Rakim the chance to bless the mic with the God. "You better believe I want to work with Rakim!," Kurupt said in an interview with Allhiphop.com."

sounds gooood ;)

Overseer, I'm not hating on Rakim.  I don't know enough about him to hate on him.  I just don't listen to him man, I'm into that West coast gangsta shiiit.
