ITS NOT just having one producer

but people dont use in-house producers, every album has kanye, just blaze, timbo, and dre or whatever

record labels dont have they crew producers like they use to

It's all about money like everything else. If Dre did a whole, say, Eminem album, he would get paid, but he wouldn't be able to charge 250 K a beat. Same with everyone else who charges 100 K or so...they aren't gonna get 1.6 million for doin 16 tracks. Whenever you do see one producer doin a whole album nowadays, they'll use a grip of throwaway beats.

Murs n 9th Wonder are the only combo I've really seen be effective more than once in the last few years.

IMHO i think having two or three differenst producers makes you album more rounded and gives it that unique appeal...

So it's not the same style, but it still has the same vibe- be it smooth laidback, crunk or clubby or emotional..but its brought to you by different producers...

If the budget is there, then why not go for it..
think before, rappers didn't have any budget, so they had to stick to one producers, which was not bad..but with the introduction of budget, it gives the artist the room to experiment, but at the same s time keeping his style..

I personally like seeing different producers on an album....

Peace!

Songs just don't gel, and it ends up wrecking an album

Yo nigga thats some real shit. I been wondering that. I don't think you can get a real consistent feel throughout the whole album if it's produced by different dudes. All the best produced albums are all one dude...

Really, there is only one mainstream rapper dropping albums entirely produced by one producer: KANYE WEST

Whether you hate or love him, his albums are for the most part very cohesive and each song flows well from one to the next.  Come to think of it, Game's last album had a similar style throughout except for Scream on Em and Around the World..........

Like ya'll said, every album that comes out had production from all the big names, and as a result noone sounds unique anymore.  What happened to in-house producers like QD3, Johnny J, Uneek, etc making hits.  Is there less talent out there on the production side?

Kokane's newest albums were produced by single producers, Josef Leimberg and Fingazz.

I don't have so much a problem with too many producers, I have a problem with crappy concepts and production. Production and beat making is entirely different. The person who makes the beat, should do the production. Too many artists do the whole "Mail me a beat, and I'll lay vocals on it." = Shitty album. The BEST albums and songs are made when the producer, and the artist, sit in the studio, and write, produce, and rap, together and make the song. You can tell on newer albums like the Game's, and Jay-Z's, they never met with their producers. They were cookie cutter albums. Thats why I prefer independent stuff, the producer and the artist are tied together financially, they need to work together, its not a big business kind of thing. Buying beats is overrated. The beat maker must meet face to face with the rapper and make the song. Collaboration is the key to quality. I doubt Dre and Jay-Z meet in person to exchange those beats, I doubt Game ever met Storch. And you can tell. They make good songs. But a good song, and a music quality are too different things. AND very few artists are making quality music. Having one producer gaurentees good collaboration, and a superior product (if the producer is good). If you don't met with the artist, how does the producer have any creative control over the material? The producer who made the beat knows what sounds good on his work. Thats why hooks don't match beats a lot of the time. The producer and the person on the hook likely never met.
