california's political liberalism
« on: January 26, 2007, 01:14:11 PM »
i've always wondered why snoop didn't mention 'blue state' in intrology, you would think rappers would be more aware and appreciative of the political liberality of CA, it allows alot of their culture to exist the way it does. it's the reason the east coast don't really have an equivalent two huge sets to say bloods and crips. the bloods and crips do not exist in the east the way they do here. also the lax marijuana laws...once more, there's plenty of shit to brag about in CA, rappers need to step it up and start incorporating blue state and nate dogg blunts into the vocab.

do you think the rappers we discuss the most are ignorant/uneducated to the point where they're not even aware of that shit(some vague idea of CA's political climate)?

now that I think about it, didn't crooked I shout out gray davis ina track or was it sly boogy? either way, it was  dope verse and gray davis is a liberal democrat albeit one that didn't do as much for the state as alot of other liberal democrats.....nancy pelosi, a woman from san francisco sitting next to cheney at the state of the union address, sick shit, cali doin' it big. the times they are a changin' for the better i think.

nope theyre just afraid of what their fans would say if they incorporated some of that shit into their lyrics. it wouldn't be "gangsta".

Davis pushed funds so that schools could be built in Compton for the first time in 20-30 years. From 1980-2000, more money was spent building jails for residents of Compton, than schools to teach their children. Davis started putting school in the ghettos. But it kind of backrupt the state, that mix with the energy crisis. You know, just tough luck.

I think rappers don't mention the politics, because the blue state mentality is very recent. It wasn't until 1994 when minorities started voting when the Republicans got Prop. 187 to pass. Before that, Cali was a liberal culture, with conservative politics. After all, the modern Republican party is born off of westcoast neo-conservative. From Barry Goldwater (AZ), to Ronald Reagan, to Richard Nixon, to Pete Wilson, Cali had very conservative taxing, which lead to the downfall of the California education system. Before, Japan use to tour California schools and model their education system after them, now, Cali is dreaming just to have half way decent schools. Davis tried to fix the problem, and now we have Arnold. California to say the least is a very disfunctional state politically. Though now the Democrats have free run over then government, which has allowed for many to be "fat cats", currupted, over taxing, more importantly over spending, bunch of liberal elites who have no clue on how to turn California's innercities around, and who are really just waiting until their congressman dies so they can run for their office. I'm not saying Cali needs to vote in Republicans (GOD NO, last time we did that, a couple became president and REALLY fucked over the innercities), but get better Democrats in there. But one thing is for sure, Cali has a VERY liberal culture, and yes, it is the truest of all the blue states.

yeah, I'm not saying they have to put the politics in the music, but there could have been a clever blue state line in intrology.
