BTS of the wash and the music biz- think about it
« on: October 21, 2001, 08:58:04 PM »
on the last thread i talked about the wash being released early. fortunately its only a few weeks before release. i have posted a lot about the wash the last month or so. and as i read some comments tonight i wanted to take the hammer and slam down a few more points.
first of all The wash is a SOUNDTRACK. it is not a dre compilation or a dre solo album. at the early stages it was planned to be a dre/snoop full reunion album. but that was when the film was due mid to late next year. once lions gate moved it up to this year the dre/snoop reunion album was squashed. once that happened it turned back into a regular soundtrack. and regular soundtracks contain a wide variety of styles and artists. as i discussed before the severe time constraints limited what the soundtrack could be. some artists and tracks that were gonna be on the album couldn't happen. and the dre/snoop duets were limited to 2. unfortunately, snoop kinda hung dre out to dry and dre had to basically prepare the album by himself with a rushed schedule. snoop didn't contribute any doggystyle artists or tracks, so dre had to do everything. he could not take the normal 6 to 12 months that he needs. snoop was busy with other commitments, projects and tours to get back with dre. so its hard to blame snoop too much, but at the same time i think he probably coulda made a little more effort. (no there is no beef, its just a lack of time). at the last possible week snoop was planning on coming in. unfortnately, like i said before that week was september 9th. some people said that i was making up a lie for an excuse. that is a fact. and the fact is that since snoop waited til the last possible days there was no way to reschedule. therefore dre had to get some prereleased joints from a few friends to replace the 2 or 3 additional dre/snoop songs that never got done.
i can't be too hard on you guys cause you aren't in the record industry. and unless you have experienced it you dont know anything. you may think you know but you have no idea. it has a lot of rewards and positive aspects but it is a dirty dirty business as fucked up and ruthless as you want it to be. it has eaten up thousands of artists and spit them out. only the strong survive. so unless you are in the recording studio, or have experienced the music industry, or behind the scenes don't make assumptions of judgements on what goes on. a lot of fans assume that when a album has a release date, the artists have almost all the way up to that time to finish. the fact is the album must be done months in advance, so it can be printed, the cover art and inserts can be printed, the cd can be pressed and the marketing/promotion must have a chance to reach people. so dre did as much as he could and since he is dre he was given a few extra days. he waited til the last possible moment to get some more collabs with snoop. so when you judge the soundtrack remember this shit. dre and the aftermath fam did all we could to get this as good as possible. y'all should be complimenting dre and mel-man on producing so many dope fuckin heaters, instead of criticizing. remember its a soundtrack not a solo album. keep that in mind, support the wash (as well as nate, warren, snoop and everyone else). be pleased with what you got, instead of being pissed about what you don't. and unless you were there behind the scenes or with dre around the studio don't guess or think you know what happened cause you don't.
well, i hope i didn't get too mad. i just wanted you to be a little understanding. and don't assume that since you aren't in the record industry that i think that you aren't knowledgable about music. i know you all love music and know your shit inside and out. but you are outside looking in. make comments and have opinions about what you know and the released albums you hear, not what you don't know. and believe me you dont know what goes on behind the scenes and reasons why some things do or don't happen.
i wanted to get this off my chest. i wanted to give y'all something to think about, and i wanted to get my critical and more aggressive comments out of the way. the end is near and i want to end things on a positive note the rest of the week. i'm sorry if i was too hard on ya. i don't mean to be. i just want you to take a look at things through a different perspective and unless i come hard my points might not get through. some of you are wondering why all my posts tonight and this coming week. i had a really loooooooooooooooong last few months. i just got back from a nice getaway and since their is a  lull in work for a couple weeks i wanted to get everything finished up this week. talk to y'all tommorrow.peace.

Well I think the wash is a good album, but not the classic some people expected. The soopafly song sounds like it also is produced by soopafly, isn't that a song aftermath got from doggystyle?
Dre has to ask more people to return favors. He helps out so many artists by producing one or more songs for their album. Now dre had to do an album quick, so I think those people could have given him a song.
But it's all good.
About the pre-downloading cd's my opinion is that I will buy the same amount of cd's as before I got a burner, but now I have the possibillity to review them before I buy it. That means I buy less albums on artists names and more on quality.
It's a danger that people gonna think all music comes for free.

thanks for all the info mellow man

WELL THIS IS THE THIRD MELLOW MAN THREAD IVE READ 2DAY.....

AND DAMN - HES GOT SERIOUSLY VALID POINTS

MY RESPONES....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) BOOTLEGGING -

IMO, DOWNLOADING AN ALBUM IS FINE AS LONG AS ITS,

A) FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL USE (COS TRUE BOOTLEGGING IS COPYING AN SELLING FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL GAIN)

B) ITS NOT TO DEPRIVE THE ARTIST (I.E. U WILL STILL BUY THE ALBUM)

*PEOPLE WHO CLAIM POORNESS AS A REASON 4 NOT BUYIN AN ALBUM (BUT STILL FIND THE MONEY 4 THE INTERNET D/LD TIME)*

PISS ME OFF

IF U CANT AFFORD THE ALBUM DONT STEAL THE WORK

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) THE MUSIC BUSINESS -

IM NOT GONNA FRONT, I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS LIKE SOMEONE LIKE MELLOW CLEARLY DOES.

YES WE'VE ALL 'SEEN' WHAT IT DOES - TO QUOTE MELLOW,

"it has eaten up thousands of artists and spit them out. only the strong survive"

BUT WE CANT APPRECIATE THE IN-DEPTH BUSINESS OF MUSIC

ITS A SORRY THING TO SEE A BUSINESS THAT BRINGS PEOPLE SO MUCH JOY,

FUCK UP PEOPLES LIVES

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) OUR GREED 4 MUSIC -

ARE WE NEVER SATISFIED?!

IM THE FIRST TO ADMIT IM ALWAYS FIENDIN 4 A NEW DRE, SNOOP, REN, CUBE TRACK (ETC)

BUT SHIT, WE GOTTA GIVE THE ARTISTS A CHANCE...

WE KNOW DRE DELIVERS THE GOODS - BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO REALISE HOW LONG DELIVERING THE GOODS TAKES.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WELL THATS ME DONE.

I THINK DRE SEZ IT BEST OVERALL...

IT AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT MUSIC[/b]

peace

Mellow, ya gotta understand, some of us up in here DO know what you're saying, cause some of us HAVE been in a studio-You can bet if I make an observation, it's informed.

Now, I agree with more or less everything you say, but you've got to see that not all of us are 14 year old teenybopping people from Beverly Hills who criticize artists cause, like the babies they are, they didn't get what they want.

Hell, I'm a rapper and producer, and I've released an album, and will be releasing another next spring or summer(peep it, on Crescent City Records y'all!)...But when someone criticizes it, I don't defend myself to the utmost, I just say "aright, your view, peace", even if I put my heart and soul into it. You've got to stop being so defensive...All the TRUE fans up in here, whatever their views on Wash OST, still got love for Dre.

Anyways, no beef, and thanx for the info-Most helpful in understanding stuff.

be pleased with what you got, instead of being pissed about what you don't.

WORD. thats the fuckin truth right there.

and yeah....like Mellow sayd...some ppl forget that this shit is a soundtrack, not a dre solo album.
you know the real fans appreciate the work. i think those who downloaded it and not buying it are pissed cause it didnt meet their expectations, thats no reason to bootlegg it
