What's Up With Ruthless Records?
« on: February 15, 2007, 04:01:19 PM »
If this has been brought up before, forgive me, I'm new to the boad, but have been reading them for a while now. There's a pretty diverse crowd here, so I wanted to see what yall thought about this?

Is there any life at Ruthless Records? Eazy E's legacy is just being destroyed every year... Like him or not, Puffy had the blueprint: when your rapper dies, and they don't have much unreleased material left, you let established, hot producers remix the acapellas you have.

I actually went out and purchased Impact of A Legend.... that album was garbage, from beginning to end. And if I'm not mistaken, there's been the craptacular Legend, and an updated version of his Greatest Hits with Ol School Shhh and Real G's; that's it?

Looking on Bitcomet, I was able to find Frank Sinatra vs. Notorious BIG... I was in heaven for a month, just by hearing BIG on anything new. I take that back, not ANYTHING, but DECENT instrumentals to back up the acapella. Not that weak Ruthless crap.

Don't get me wrong, Puffy was kinda hit and miss with Born Again and Duets, but IT KEPT BIGS NAME OUT THERE.

Ruthless records is sitting on a goldmine of stuff, and nothing is getting done over there.

So if that's the case, why's Maino wack, if he said the same thing. It ain't controversy, just the truth. Huh.

Sorry that just popped into my head when I heard that statement. Lol.

Well, there's actually been quite a few since "Ruthless For Life" dropped, although not a whole lot, recently. Ren dropped "Ruthless For Life" in the summer of 1998.  Bizzy Bone dropped "Heaven's Movie" in October of '98 (I remember it was the same day Mack 10 released "The Recipe" which featured that unreleased verse from Eazy-E). Krayzie Bone released "Thug Mentality" in 1999.  "Turf Stories" (the soundtrack to a movie that, to my knowledge, was never made) was released on Ruthless in 1999.  Bone Thugs released "BTNH Ressurrection" in 2000. Layzie Bone dropped one album on Ruthless under the name "L-Burna" in 2001.  Krayzie Bone released his second solo, "Thug On Da Line" in 2001. Bone Thugs released "Thug World Order" in 2002. And Baby S released his debut album "Street Fractions" in 2002.  King T was the last artist I can think of that was supposed to release an album on "Ruthless Records," but it never came out.  And there were many more too numerous to list that were set to drop albums on the label between now and when "Ruthless For Life" was first released.

It will be interesting to see what happens.  I remember reading in that interview with Tomica from a while back that they were thinking about re-releasing some of their old out-of-print albums.  I think that would be a good idea.  Particularly if they considered putting bonus tracks on there.  I'm sure there are a lot of songs from various artists that were on the label over the years that have never been released.

Oh Man, I so wish they would release DOC - No One Can Do It Better, that Jimmy Z Record, that old JJ Fad stuff, pretty much anything that came out before '90...

I'm just surprised that Ruthless hasn't been releasing this stuff earlier; Remember back in 2000 - 2001, when Hello and Chin Check came out? I always thought a novel idea was to do a new NWA remix album... and I believe Ruthless still owns all the masters. I don't know, I'm just hungry for some more Eazy E, I know that some new verses came out on the Boyz N Tha Hood track Gangsta's and that track off the Big Mike Mixtape, Love 4 Dem Gangsta's...

Those 2 songs, are the prototype way to remix Eazy's vocals. That Boyz track sounded crazy, I love it, even though I'm not that much of a Young Jeezy fan. That Game track was off the chains too.

LOL who do we have to call so Ruthless puts out his acapella's, I can find somebody to put some slamming beats on Eazy's vocals....

Yeah.  They've reused that verse from Mack 10's album a shitload of times now.  It's actually a verse from Eazy's own song "Hittin'Switches" which was featured on the "Impact of a Legend" set.  But it was still unreleased at the time that Mack 10 dropped "Get Yo Ride On" off the album, "The Recipe."    Then Game did a remix of it which I believe was produced by Red Spyda on the G-Unit volume 8(?) mixtape.  Not too mention a number of other remixes with other artists that I've heard on the net.  Then later Game did another Eazy remix with "Luv 4 Dem Gangstas," which was originally an Eazy solo track off the "Beverly Hills Cop III" soundtrack.  The only remix I can think they did of "Gangsta Beat 4 The Street" was that one on Eric Onasis's (Eric Sermon) album called "So Sweet."  But there may have been others.  To be honest, I've never heard the Boyz N' The Hood remix.

You're right, the original version was on Straight Of The Mutha... Streets. I didn't particularly like that version with Dresta, but hey that's just me.

I'm just saying I could hear those verses remixed 28 times, just wanna hear Eazy on some new stuff.
