Of these two albums, which one would you say is better musically? That means aside from the concepts, lyrics, skits, and whatever else.

I'd say..................................

i just read again, and im amazed how you say aside "from the concepts, lyrics, skits and whatever else", what is left off an album when you strip those things from it...lol

an album should be viewed as 1 whole, 1 product and 1 experience, and without the lyrics an album aint an album, but just different parts, and as a whole 2001 >>> rythm-al-ism, imo

Quik's album was a Musical Masterpiece, while 2001 was a Hiphop Classic, so I'll go with Quik's album for this one!

the beats ;)

i'd rather listen to an instrumental version of Rhythmalism then 2001... so Quik gets my vote...

(oeven tho i think 2001 is a better album)

Rhythm-al-ism.

I can't listen to 2001 all the way through.  But I can with Rhythm-al-ism.

"Musically" Rhythmalism is far superior simply because of Quik's sense of using unusual jazz/fusion chords and arrangements. Anybody who has basic piano skills can figure out how to play any of the beats from 2001 by ear because most of Dre's beats only use basic minor chords that you would probably learn with a few weeks of piano lessons. Now that's not to take away anything from Dre, what Dre has an edge over Quik with is his ability to polish his beats, to take his simple arrangements and make them sound futuristic and clear without sounding overproduced like, for example, new R&B records. Dre can keep it crisp and still sound grimy. But when it comes to straight out musicianship, Quik definitely wins out with Rhythmalism.

Me too, and XL Middleton's analysis is on point as well.

I have rudimentary piano skills and I can reproduce most hip hop chords, as they're fairly simple for the most part. Quik's album on the other hand, is on some next level shit. It truly is a musical masterpiece.
Being a LAKER is a privilige. Unfortunately some "Lakers" have forgotten that.

Rhythm-Al-Ism - no doubt.

Dre's record is the best album "lyrics-wise", Dre is just a master when it comes to producing rappers....But Quik is the best when it comes to making beats 8)

Personally prefer 2001 but both have so many classic songs. Quiks voice can be a bit annoying to me sometimes so i pick 2001.
